I don't think she can take anymore, Captain!

Yet somehow, POS and I are limping out on the information superhiway (do people use that term anymore?). Tonite: seem to have lost my Visa check card. went to Delilah's (Langford spinning Willie Nelson, hot damn!) and had to bum PBRs off Lane. Hopefully the card is at the store, we shall see.

(Yes the Now playing is correct. STILL listening to that damn album!)

The big day!

I got my copies of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and the Chelsea Walls Soundtrack, scored by Jeff Tweedy. It's so nice after months to have the actual album in my hand. Today is also the day Jay Bennett & Edward Burch's Palace comes out, which I have been listening to as much as anything else. I ORDER thee to go buy Palace and YHF. I was gonna go to Marina Towers and commemerate the cover and take pictures, but I may do that Friday. Last nite at the Hideout waiting for the album was nice, some odd misunderstanding about fisting though. Ed played "Telephone Line" for me. ahhhh ELO. "Rock Aria" indeed!

Jay Bennett and Edward Burch @ Schubas

This show was fabulous! It was the first time I'd seen them with a band. I love this album a ton, and hope everyone who picks up that other album Tuesday shells out for this one too. The good time was enhanced by my fellow partners in crime up front, Theresa and Jackie, who was celebrating a birthday. Not only do the guys play great music, but they are FUNNY. Jay said they were also selling YHF and the Chelsea Walls soundtrack along with their album. I should have pics from the nite soon.

"U GUYS WERE AT SCHUBAS FOR 8 HOURS?"

Yes. For the Wilco listening party from 5:30 (won some nifty stuff) to Cary Hudson, then sticking around for drinks and the Jukebox, we closed the place. We did take a dinner break though, across the street. Cary Hudson was awesome, check him out if you get the chance. And hearing the actual copy of YHF on a giant stereo was amazing. Now excuse me while I figure out where to place my giant YHF cover.

The Palace at 4am (Part I)

This is the new album by former Wilcooer Jay Bennett and Hideout Monday nite fave Edward Burch. Based on the few times I've heard the material live, I though it was going to be a sorta down accoustic album. But it's a poppy explosion!! Definatly pick this up when you pick up Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot next Tuesday.

uuuuuuuuuuugh

Got to the Hideout at about 12:20 last nite. Proceeded to get drunk as quickly as possible, and buy everyone I know PBRs. Tim Tutten bought me a round to thank me for being supportive at the Martyrs show a few weeks ago, so that was cool. After the Hideout closed we all went to some 4 oclock place in Old Town. After that place closed at 4, Tim invited us back to the Hideout where we sat in the back room with the lights off and everyone drank even more and played music. Other random highlites of the evening include James puking in Adam's dad's car, learning an amazing way to open the wrap on a CD from Ed Burch, sharing a pitcher of Old Style with Leroy..and probably some other great stuff that I just can't remember. The pictures are awesome, I'll try to get them up soon.

Of course, Saturday nite is the release show for Jay and Ed's album at Schubas. This is gonna be one of those weeks.

The Sadies!!!

The live show is ten times better than the album. Sometimes a (mainly)instrumental can get a bit dull on stage (like second opener Cash Audio, imho) but the Sadies tore it up. They even made opener Jon Langford worth sitting through one more time even though you've seen him ten times this year already, as his backing band. This will be a hard show to top, though with the rosted for the coming month or so, who knows!

Butt Plug Water Bottle Monster

Mike S. (or should I call him Xmike?) is weird. Today, he came to work, bought a sweatshirt, then proceeded to stretch it using 3 five gallon water jugs and two giant buttlpugs. It was scary looking. End of story. I'm off to rock n roll.

Day off

Watched some tv...Didja know "America's Funniest Home Videos" is still on? I was shocked! Had a lovely dinner at Popeye's, then saw Bottle Rocket at the Music Box. It was in the intimate theatre. Had a lovely moment listening to Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" in Uptown. It was all synergistic, dude!

and speaking of "AFV", there's a Spanish version on Telemundo at 3:30 am called "Ay Caramba"? It's the same thing, but with hilarious Spanish comentary over the clips. Perfect after a nite of drinking, etc.

Dear gods! I love this city!

I was on such a high from the beautiful weather, I just had to go out after work. So I met up with Lane at Jake's, the bar w/ all 4 UT cds on the jukebox. I'm walking to the redline afterward and Adam and his friends happen to be driving by, and yell at me to get in. We go to some Gold Coast 4 o clock and just talk music all nite. Of course, they're more on the creative side than me, the mere groupie, but, dammit, it was just a great nite. And I must keep in mind when Adam says he'll take me to the redline, I can ususally finagle all the way home ;)

I zonked out last nite at 12:45 am. Am pulling a 12 hour day today. Went to the Hideout Monday, second to last show before Leroy and Edward's respective tours. Kelly Kessler and the Wichita Shut Ins Featuring Lawrence Peters (who is also my fave bartender at the Hideout) did a great set. I highly recommend their EP. There's a lot of fun stuff coming up though, so if you want to stalk me you can find me at Schuba's this Saturday for the Sadies, and then big fun at Schuba's NEXT Thursday with the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot listening party and Cary Hudson after that. woohoo!

Sooz calls me in the middle of lunch, and I'm eating hotdogs, which is now cold, but I don't care...so I broke out the Vienna Beef hat she got for me. WILCO!!!

Last nights Jeff Tweedy solo show at the 500 capacity club Martyrs turned into a full blown Wilco mini show. I knew something was up when JP started plugging in Jeff's Moogerfoogers. Jeff came out and did "Sunken Treasure", "New Madrid", "I'm the Man who Loves You" and "Wait Up" in which he wandered away and sang sans microphone, trying to get the crowd to shut up. I was able to hear quite nicely, as I had staked out the spot right in front of Tweedy's monitor.

Then the whole band came out and did full rocking versions of the Unified Theory of Everything song, (I think it's really called something about "Seasons", "Spiders" (which is the private beach in Michigan song), "Reservations", "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart", "War on War", "Be Not So Fearful" (a cover), and "Always in Love". It was amazing, needless to say. I'm still recovering. And my appologies to anyone standing next to me during "Always in Love" as I'm sure my dancing annoyed the crap out of you.

And to the girl in front with me who bought me a PBR: if you are at the Hideout Monday nite, drinks are on me.

Speaking of the Hideout, Leroy and Edward were the show's openers. It was kind of weird hearing the songs with drums (courtesey Glen Kotche) and mics. Not to say they weren't good. And Tim Tuten's Tweedy Intro Rappy thing was amazing, I hope it was taped.

Screw you, Dr. Love!!

Love Calculator

Dr. Love thinks a relationship might work out between samantha ross and jason lee, but the chance is very small. A successful relationship is possible, but you both have to work on it. Do not sit back and think that it will all work out fine, because it might not be working out the way you wanted it to. Spend as much time with each other as possible. Again, the chance of this relationship working out is very small, so even when you do work hard on it, it still might not work out.

Guitarist Cleared of Drunken Mid-Air Rampage

Fri Apr 5,10:25 AM ET
By Sinead O'Hanlon

LONDON (Reuters) - Rock star Peter Buck from top-selling American band R.E.M (news - web sites). was acquitted Friday of a drunken mid-air rampage and assaulting staff on a British Airways flight from Seattle.
The jury at Isleworth Crown Court in west London found the guitarist not guilty of being drunk on an aircraft, two counts of assaulting crew members and one of damaging British Airways property.
"I am grateful to the court, the jury, my lawyers, my family, friends and supporters who have stood by me throughout this experience," Buck said in a statement read out by his lawyer Neil Blundell after the verdict.
"I am obviously relieved to be finished here and I look forward to turning my attention to my family, my band and our music."
During the three-week trial, the court was told that Buck, 45, went on an alcohol-fueled rampage through the first-class cabin on a British Airways flight from Seattle on his way to perform a concert in front of Nelson Mandela in London last April.
The prosecution accused Buck of consuming 15 glasses of wine, overturning a cart, assaulting two cabin crew members, trying to open the emergency exit and trying to hide a knife up his sleeve.
Buck's defense said the musician had blacked out after taking a sleeping pill with alcohol.
A string of rock stars lined up to testify on Buck's behalf, telling the court such behavior was totally out of character.
R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe told the court Buck was "gentle and kind" and the perfect definition of a "Southern Gentleman."
"He is someone who is considerate to all people and genteel, and he follows the golden rule of treating people as you want to be treated no matter who they are."
U2 front man Bono said Buck was a "peaceable" man who preferred spending time with his children to living the high life. "I have never, ever seen him drunk. I have absolutely never seen him taking drugs."
R.E.M., one of the most successful rock bands in the world, has sold an estimated 40 million records worldwide, according to its label, Warner Bros. Records.
Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 with a line-up of Buck, Stipe, Mike Mills and Bill Berry, the band has released 16 albums and had a string of hits including "Losing My Religion," "Stand" and "Shiny Happy People."
After his arrest at Heathrow last year, Buck released a statement saying: "I am very sorry for the incident and, of course, very embarrassed about the whole thing."

Drawing Flies: A review

okay a synopsis: wellfare kids in Vancouver take off for the woods when their benefits are cut off. Lee's character is actually obsessed with finding bigfoot. and there's a scene of a bunch of men in diapers. I especially like it when Lee's character takes off his shirt and smears bigfoot poo on him. Would I recommend this? Well, it has all yr favorite actors from Kevin Smith's movies (including Silent Bob himself) and Jason Mewes as someone other than Jay who still calls people gay and smokes pot though.

and after reading the All Movie Guide bio on Jason Lee, I think I know why I'm crushsessed with him:"Discovered by director Kevin Smith, who gave him his first break with a lead role in Mallrats (1995), Lee went on to win over critics and audiences with his portrayals of men who often harbored some degree of endearing immaturity and/or sweet-natured dorkiness. "

I'm all about "endearing immaturity and/or sweet-natured dorkiness".

R.E.M. to Lend Song to Burger King Commercial

from Pitchfork
Mike Mills prefers his Boca burger flame-broiled
Brian J. Daignault reports:
In light of Burger King's recent unveiling of a vegan burger on domestic shores, R.E.M. has reportedly decided to allow the multi-national meat powerhouse access to the mid-90's single "Shiny Happy People." The inclusion of such a menu selection heralds a new age, one which PETA (one of Michael Stipe's pet causes, heh) has been celebrating for weeks now, ending their protests against the corporation and even going so far as to hand out free "BK Veggie" sandwiches to patrons at select restaurants.

"We really feel that Burger King's decision to release this product is a positive one, and will have great impact on the way middle America thinks and eats," read a statement posted on the band's official website Friday. With a vegan option now available at all 8,000 Burger Kings in the United States, they may have a point. As for the song selection, Stipe elaborates: "That song really didn't get the airplay we felt it deserved when it was released. This is kind of our chance to rectify that... and I, for one, believe that Americans will indeed be shinier and happier after eating this sandwich and hopefully altering their diets to exclude meat."

This is not the first time Madison Avenue has come knocking at R.E.M.'s door. Just last month the manufacturers of sleeping pill Ambien approached the Athens, Georgia trio about supplying a song for their new marketing effort. The popular sleep aid was made the scapegoat for Peter Buck's alleged air-rage incident last year, where he allegedly lost control of himself on a British Airways flight after washing a sleeping pill down with a glass of wine. "I feel very badly about the negative attention I have garnered for this wonderful medicine," the sheepish guitarist said from his London hotel room. "And one way to really soften the blow would be to contribute [some music] to their new commercial." No word yet on which track the band might select, but may we humbly suggest "I've Been High?"
