I'm going for the Gusto and upgrading...I apparantly am a little rusty with 9.2 and don't remember shit about it. will miss the slide puzzle though.
it's a BLUEBERRY!!
please welcome my new baby to the world, a blueberry iBook! she's a little pokey compared to sooz's iBook, but dammit, she LOOKS cool! and this is her first samorama post...she needs a name, and I'm still debating upgrading her to Jaguar...it's kinda fun using OS 9.2 for a bit...nothing like being greeted by a smiling mac classic when you power up!

And in other flashback news...
Jay Jr. was in the store tonite! He was visiting a friend in Chicago...at first I'm like huh? who are you? then he's like "Jay Jr.!" (he bought the
Anodyne reissue). Jay, we miss you here!
Flashback!
Wow. My best friend from back home (patti) calls me at 1 in the morning...we used to like stay up all night on the phone in junior high talking about absolutely nothing. We didn't have cordless phones back then, so we would make each other hold on while we ran to the kitchen for snacks. And I would put the phone up to the speaker for her to hear songs, most of which I don't think she liked since I was into like R.E.M. and Crowded House and she was into Poison and Skid Row. Tonite though, i sent her the Mp3 of Leonard Nimoy singing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins". The more things change the more they stay the same.

sigur ros is on Carson Daly's late nite show. I have their first album, but I think I am deciding I don't like music that bums me out. this one damn song has me all depressed. I guess there's a time and a place for it. Like the first time I saw Godspeed You Black Emporer! and wanted to kill myself. I mean, I guess that's a sign that the music is good, if it can affect you that much. Willard Grant Conspiracy did that to me as well. I dunno, I guess I just don't want to pay $12 to be sad.

Anyhoot
I'm dead tired. not much sleep last nite, i should be catching up now. i hate it when chunks of my nite are missing from my memory and it just sort of slowly comes back to you piece by piece with the assistance of others who were there. actually, maybe it isnt that bad.
Sam-o-rama shall soon have it's own new used POS that's not too POS-y. A lovely classic blueberry iBook. Yes, I shall somehow deal with the damn upside down Apple.
i miss sooz. a LOT. i think i miss sleep more. I shall now try to reaccquaint myself with it.
Still testing...

I took these lovely pictures of the lovely Jason Molina of Songs:Ohia tonite and they just aren't there now. But the show was great. I love anyone who gets on the stage, tells them to turn the lights off, plays for an hour and fucks encores. And I'm dunk to boot! I must say it was nice hanging with Clare again...I miss her!

dumbasses
"Protesters" started throwing stuff at my Starbucks last nite (I was actually working at a different store). What the hell does Bush and this war have to do with a corporate coffee shop?
Thursday, March 20, 2003
well hmm
Now playing won't update. damn that. uh not up to much since last posting...worked from 5am til 10pm last nite which wasn't that awful. I wouldn't want to do it every day though.
Sunday is chic-a-go-go @ Schuba's @ 4, then that nite is Songs:Ohia. S:O on chic-a-go-go would be more fun though. hard to dance to perhaps.

Quote of the Day
"Look at the legendary way I break down boxes." ~matt
The worse thing about monday nites are the Tuesday mornings afterwards
Started out with Sooz and Theresa at Shenanigans for a few songs from the Jayhawks. Odd place for a Jayhawks show...i thought there might be trouble when we showed up and it looked like a scene from Animal House, but all was good.
Went to Silver Cloud for dinner and more drinking...they played the Bush speech but we kinda ignored it and had a good time.
Then the Hideout...I was already wasted by the time we got there...so of course I kept drinking. Twas an great nite though, lots of good music and socializing, and boozing til 4am. I lost some buttons though. LeRoy ended up with the one and only samorama.com button in existence...had something to do with O'Rama being an Irish name. He'll probably sell it on ebay to take care of that credit card debt.

mmm scrummy shephards pie
Whee happy saint patricks day! sooz has gotten me all dunk and bloated and we are now singing along with the rock n roll hall of fame thingy on vh-1. damn, our harmonies put the righteous brothers to shame. we are the righteous sisters. right on.
war...still bad
though thankfully the protest was across the street from old navy...lots of shopping protesters...

I'm alive!
Just not much time to post. LOVING working at Planet of Sound! but, duh! Got tickets for DeKalb (wilco that is)...taking it easy this weekend besides LOTS of working, but Monday should be a ton o fun.
Wednesday, March 12, 2003
good morning!
not much to report here, still recovering...aye carumba! with two jobs and some wilco goodness coming up i don't know when I'm gonna get any rest! better than lying in my bed with the kitties hatching an escape plan though.
i REALLY need to rest up for St. Patricks day, Monday...not to mention the celebration of it this Saturday.

A progression on a Monday nite at the Hideout...
I decided since we are all going to die anyway we should have fun. and get drunk. so we did. I don't remember a whole lot...a guy from SF coming up to me saying he saw me there...WEIRD! told Ed he was partly responsible for me getting my new job... He read an amazing letter to MBNA thanking them for a credit card offer. uh...anything else?
Me drunkenly rambling in bed afterwards...

however...
hiding in bed with a couple kitties and a sock monkey certainly makes one feel better.
and the hideout tonite with Ed and LeRoy!
Thanks for the nightmares, W.
So I'm minding my own business watching Celebrity Justice last nite, and this commercial comes on with these emergency workers telling me I should have an emergency plan. they don't quite tell you for what...yr just supposed to assume something bad is going to happen. It directs you to this
most helpful website. While I certainly do not wish anyone dead, I hope George W. get trapped in a bunker with lots of food so he doesn't suffer. Just so we don't have to deal with him. I hope the secret service doesn't read this, but then again I hope they do.

I was called a smartass after this one ;) I was also given some drumming tips by glenn along the lines of: "Learn to twirl your sticks" and "Just listen to Velvet Underground records."

blah blah blah
not much going on. typing with kitty on lap is fun.

Blab Happy!!
CTA sets cellular plan for subways
By Jon Hilkevitch
Chicago's subway system, an 11.4-mile-long Cellular-Free Zone, may soon become a rolling gabfest.
The CTA board approved an $11.2 million contract Wednesday for a Libertyville company to install a wireless communication system in the subway tunnels on the Red and Blue Lines.
CTA President Frank Kruesi, who uses his cell phone daily while riding on elevated trains, acknowledged the deal was "a mixed blessing, but overall a positive amenity."
The subway tunnels, built in the 1940s, were one of the last refuges from a blab-happy society that feeds on unlimited free minutes of telephone time.

Well I'll Be!
Looks like I'm gonna be working at Laurie's Planet of Sound! What about the coffee, you ask? we shall see...you
know I've always wanted to work in a (GOOD) record store!
Record stores are still listed under "Records" in the Chicago phone book. I wonder how many people go to Coconuts for records...
We are here, part 12
Let it snow, etc

I've been laying low, practicing the drumming ;) gearing up for a couple shows this weekend..50ft Queenie if they're not on too early and On Filmore with Boxstep and Azita (whom I know nothing about) this Saturday...(consider yrself warned if you ever set that bookmark like i recommended :P)
