Donna, Kelly and Biz arrived safely, with the exception of some traffic issues...guess lotsa people try to come into the city on a Friday nite! Stayed up 'til the wee hours of the the night, and were also graced with Al-x's presence, even though he seemed to pass out right away, and i had to sort of shift him since he was snoring way loudly.

In honor of memorial day I was not online yesterday. Actually, it's because I worked, then partied. Hurray! or hoorah even. I must thank Stacey for the lovely party favors, I owe you :)

Ohmigods!!
My shack was SHOOK! That was the craziest show i have ever been to! First of all, why have I missed Bobby Bare Jr. (and his attractive backing band) everytime they have been thru? that album was on my top ten of last year...they were RAD!
But th' Legendary Shack*Shakers...I enjoy the album, but live is a whole 'nuther story! The Abbey was INSANELY hot, but I could not stop moving! Col. J.D. is so unsexy he's back to sexy. Anyhoot, check out their
website.

party!
went to the art thing which was actually a Lumpen magazine party. Turns out it was in the building of someone I know. I hope he was out of town as it was a racous affair with hipsters singing karaoke. However, lotsa beer and stuff was consumed and everyone left happy. Not to mention i was in my old hood which has the best cheez fries in the WORLD. Also, there was a bear pride party nearby (it's IML weekend!). FUN!

woo, memorial day weekend!
the weekend in which we celebrate our county's fallen heroes by partying! Started today after work by drinking a few with matt a discussing the kinds of stuff you discuss when yr drinking. Missed out on "Babes with Blades" with Tickey, but she promises an art opening and a bbq later on. Tommorow I an checking out the show at the Abbey.
DID miss a party in which someone who was told by a psychic 7 years ago they would die on before their 25th birthday was waiting for the moment up til midnite. I ended up chilling in the jacuzzi with the Crystal. (okay, some of that story is a lie.)

Miniature Dogs Chase Off Flasher
BERLIN (Reuters) - A German flasher exposing himself to a woman in a forest was forced to run for cover when she set her three small pug dogs on him, police said on Friday.
Police in the southern town of Straubing said the man, who was about 30, was naked when he surprised the 55-year-old woman with the dogs.
"He had Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt in one hand and his private parts in the other," said police spokesman Klaus Pickel.
The woman spurred the lap dogs into action, one of which bit the man on the calf before he fled through the trees. "The dog was too small to bite him anywhere else," said Pickel. The man is still on the loose.
Kawaii!!!
wow, it was cute day, as there was a puppy and a buddhist monk in front of the store today. Buddhist monks are just cute. and so are little tiny golden retrievers, especially when they are next to big ones!
In more of my shameless pimping of the Thorns, they will be on Craig Kilbourne tonite.
Stolen quote of the day:
"I'll have people meet me on the street with their 3-year-old and they'll say, 'Do you know who this is? There's a man inside Big Bird and this is the man.' This is bad news to a child."
-- CAROLL SPINNEY, who has portrayed the "Sesame Street" character for more than 30 years, in the Los Angeles Times
yum
ended up making the risotto. I am assuming it went well, as he is passed out on the love seat while we watch harold and maude. I think passed out is a good sign?

the Thorns!
I got the album today! I was a little disappointed when the intro chords to track 3 kicked in...I was thinking "wow, what a Jayhawks ripoff..." turns out it WAS a Jayhawks song, "Blue". Otherwise, the album was exactly as I hoped, Matthew Sweet does CSN/Adult Alternative, and there ain't nothing wrong with that. Maybe it will bring some attention to his amazing back catalog. It makes me really want to check them out opening for the Jayhawks at Summerfest...One giant "Blue" lovefest!!
In othernews, uh..not much really. Working on the NEW Planet of Sound website. Gearing up for th' Legendary Shack*Shakers/ Bobby Bare Jr. show at the Abbey this Sunday. I LOVE BBj's solo album, and the Shack*Shakers album is cool, I hear they put on an INSANE live performance so I'm stoked. Cooking dinner for Matt tommorow in honor of his bday which was last weekend. Still deabating the menu though.
Is it okay that sometimes I don't post in full sentences on here?
YUMMMMMM!
Sooz, that is the most delicious Risotto I have ever tasted. Are you sure you aren't Italian?
Tagalong Ice Cream should be made illegal!
take it away, please!!
uh, saw the Thorns on Leno, pretty much as i expected..should have the album tommorow.

The current astral energy brings you much closer than you could have thought possible to someone who is the epitome of style and elegance. They have impressed you in the past with their flare and general dress sense, but today in conversation you are even more impressed by their wisdom and their spiritual knowledge. They are obviously not just a pretty face, as you certainly intend to find out.
farewell wilca!
Alison and Jasmine took off today, which was sad. However, their plastic cups have been immortalized. I think they saw all the important sites in Chicago though, hopefully they will move here soon!
Today was Matt's bday. I made him a really interesting looking cake, and got him a Bay City Rollers record (
Rock'n'Roll Love Letter, their best one), and did some hardcore grocery shopping.
Nope, nuthin too note worthy. Trouble making should commence soon.
lookout thax!
John and Laurie Stirratt at Schuba's
It was a nice show...just the two of them with guitars and a pedal steel player. They played an assortment of new stuff, some Autumn Defense stuff, and a Wilco song (the one John sings, anyway...always nice to hear it). The new album from these two (due out next year?) should be cool.

Quote of the Day
"Just a reminder-things are hot when they come out of the oven." ~Sooz, after making a DELICIOUS meal.
Random Crud, or Holy Shit She's Complaining About the Weather AGAIN
I know it does no good to complain about things you can't do anything about, ie the weather, but it SUCKS!! it's FIFTY FOUR DEGREES out! that's way lame!!
Finally got around to getting one of the Uncle Tupelo Reissues,
March 16-20, 1993. It's my favorite, which I know is a bold statement.I really love it, it's such a full album. Hell, it would be a great album with nothing but "Wait Up", "Atomic Power", "Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down" and "Sandusky". I even coerced Jon W. into buying it yesterday.
I guess I'm going to foresake Two Cow Garage for My Morning Jacket tonite, since I don't have much $$$ and I'm on the list for MMJ. Sorry Two Cows :(
Watched the movies
Psych Out and
The Trip with Matt last nite.
Psych Out features Jack Nicholson as a hippie named Stoney who fronts a band called Mumblin' Jim who do a really odd instrumental cover of "Purple Haze" that's probably not quite supposed to be "Purple Haze". However, the Strawberry Alarm Clock is actually in the movie!
The Trip is pretty much a guy on an acid trip. whoaaaaaaa...

not much
saw a mighty wind with amanda. It wasn't the laugh out loud riot that Guffman and Best in Show were. That doesn't mean it wasn't good...I think it was almost too believable maybe?

Grown up, shmoan up
I need to reclaim my hellraisin' days of a year or so ago. I also need to finish coloring the unicorn poster for Matt.
I don't want to grow up I don't think.
Career shift part 5
Taking a cue from that "grown up" article I am bidding adieu to Starbucks and devoting all my time to Planet of Sound. Why? Because it will make me happy :)

I'm officially grown up
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Most Americans believe someone isn't grown up until age 26, probably with a completed education, a full-time job, a family to support and financial independence, a survey said on Thursday.
But they also believe that becoming an official grown-up is a process that takes five years from about the age of 20, concluded the report from the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center.
The findings were based on a representative sample of 1,398 people over age 18 surveyed in person in 2002. It had an error margin of plus or minus 3 percent.
The poll found the following ages at which people expect the transitions to grown-up status to be completed: Age 20.9 self-supporting; 21.1 no longer living with parents; 21.2 full-time job; 22.3 education complete; 24.5 being able to support a family financially; 25.7 married; and 26.2 having a child.
'There is a large degree of consensus across social groups on the relative importance of the seven transitions,' said Tom Smith, director of the survey. 'The only notable pattern of differences is on views about supporting a family, having a child and getting married.
'Older adults and the widowed and married rate these as more important than younger adults and the never-married do,' he added. 'This probably reflects in large part a shift in values across generations away from traditional family values.'
The most valued step toward reaching adulthood, the survey found, was completing an education, followed by full-time employment, supporting a family, financial independence, living independently of parents, marriage and parenthood.

Bright Eyes
Twas an interesting show that kept us at Metro til 3:00am. Conor is a very...arresting performer?
anyhoot, this is kinda fitting I guess...

you're the older, and the much wiser conor. but you
tend to be drunk for every show. which causes
you to stumble a lot and spill drinks on drum
sets and get a little more friendlier with your
fans than you probably should. you're really
just an older version of young depressed pill
taking conor. why so sad still?
which conor oberst are you? brought to you by Quizilla

Uncle Remus
Sooz and I have discovered Uncle Remus, this place where you get fried chicken smothered in BBQ sauce. this didn't sound like a good idea to us, but it tastes really damn good, and it is CHEAP!
4 locations to serve you!!
Kicking Television Show
The Sound Stage taping was rad! I have never seen Sonic Youth live and while I really only saw Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore because of the TV camera, I can't complain.
Wilco was great, it was like seeing them at a planetarium with all the crazy lights and lasery things. it will be fun to watch it when it airs on PBS. I don't know if they can ever top the "poor places" played tonite! it will also be interesting to see if they air "Kicking Televison". the reaction of the crowd around us for that song was pretty funny. A lovely show, pizza...what more can one ask for? (a big thank you to sue, too...)
Wednesday, May 07, 2003
yay!
the soundstage taping is today. In order to prepare we watched other tv shows Wilco has been on in order to gauge how we should behave. This really was not an effective exercise.

Today
Was awaken at 9 something am for waffles. I never even got any, i went right back to bed. Worked at POS today, and got to work on a top secret project with Janina. Alison and Jasmine came and picked me up and we went to the Hideout for a beer. Got to talk to Tim which was nice, since I hadn't seen him in awhile. Starting to get excited about the Soundstage taping with Wilco and Sonic Youth Wednesday. Although, not sure what to wear since they tell you to 'dress like you are going to a club on a saturday.' We actually looked for this type of clothing at the mall yesterday...THAT was scary.

My .02 cents worth
Went to see Ted Leo/Pharmacists at the Empty Bottle tonite with Jasmine, which was only 1 cent for their customer appreciation show. Unfortunatly poor Ted's voice was shot, and he was having trouble. He made it through about 45 minutes, maybe an hour, and sounded great but according to
his websitehe is really having trouble. I hope he's okay! It was a lot of fun, it's always cool to go to a show where the majority of the crowd is dancing/moving and just having a good time.

Day off!
Jim Ching was called, stories were told...today we took a field trip to the oak brook mall, where we visited the Apple Store and Club Lucy Lui, er Libby Lu that was the most glittering thing i have ever seen!
Heading out to the Bottle for Ted Leo tonite.
Now I can't sleep!
Allison and Jasmine are on the way back, unexpectedly! I'm stoked because I bet they have some stories!! im hungry though, and we need to go grocery shopping...might hafta call Jim Ching!

need sleep
must work other job...is it worth catching an hour nap?
look, new poll!!
Fritos were overwhelmingly NOT america's favorite snack food, and in the interim whilst I think of a better poll topic, there's a really crappy one.
But where were the costumed dorks?
Went and saw X-Men 2 with some coworkers, all of whom open the store with me in 2 hours. (guess that's okay, since we sell coffee, and can consume as much as is humanly possible.
The movie was RAD though, I thorougly enjoyed it. Alan Cummings as Nightcrawler is great. definitly worth the sleep deprivation, even if I didn't see anyone dressed up at the theatre.

More wet.
Yuk! decided to hide inside all day...possibly going to see X2 tonite, although something weird happened when i was buying online tickets...hmm...

it's rained like all nite, perfect weather for watching minus 5/wilco on Letterman. how 'bout those angles on Glenn?
