Fall Backward
Went to see Clem Snide / Califone / Okkervil River at the Empty Bottle sponsered Logan Square Auditorium. This could have been a really great show but the place is sooooo damn echoey. It was really difficult to make out the vocals. Not to mention the Coronas were $5. FIVE DOLLARS!! wow! I had never seen Clem Snide and they were really really cool live, sound issues aside. Their music is kinda go to bed music for me (which is not a dis) and I was worried the show would be kinda low key, but the lead guitarist/banjoist/big hornist was really damn good. Califone just rules, period. Okkervil River were pretty good, I'll have to get their album. Otherwise though, i don't know if I'll hurry back to a show there. It sucks, the venue is in a nice location (for me anyways, right off the blue line).

Whoa
Went to see On Filmore at the Bottle tonite. Had this weird experience during the performance where the music made me remember very vividly this trip my friend Suzanne and I took with her parents to this beachy place (we lived in Indonesia, don't forget) and stayed in a cabin, and how I didn't go out on the beach, and it made me kind of regret not going on the beach. I just have a thing against sand! Also brought to mind was the trip we took into town to get her dad some ice cream and us some beer (no drinkin age!) and the car got rearended or something...so it kinda put a damper on the weekend for the parents (note: we weren't driving...we had a driver) but not us, as we had big ol bottles of BEER! anyhoot, thanks On Filmore, for the sonic journey.

R.I.P. Elliott Smith
this is just truly awful. I think the greatest testament to an artist, besides an amazing body of work, is the people that they inspired and touched. Elliott Smith touched me and a huge community of fans, that while I was not a part of it, have certainly seen it firsthand. I can only imagine the grief his uber fans are feeling. Take comfort in his music, and those who love it.

Give me those 2 minutes of my life back yahoo!
I can't believe I wasted that much of my life reading
this 'news' story. However it teaches a valuable lesson: your worth and popularity is determined by how long your wax likeness sticks around in a lobby.

Sunday Morning
Woke up to a lovely breakfast prepared by mark and sooz of some delish french toast and bacon, and lou and rosie brought sam-o-sas! rosie, theresa and i went to chic-a-go-go and danced and then had a slight band practice that actually wasn't awful. I have found my groove on the drum machine!
and sooz made wonderful risotto.....mmmmmm

Drunk by Noon
Saw the Handsome Family at the Abbey tonite. It was way cool, they played every song I wanted to hear...my one gripe though is that Bret did NOT play the musical saw during 24 Hour Store which is my favorite song on Singing Bones and the most perfect spooky halloween song. They even had real drums on most songs!

GOOOOOOO CUBS!!
We're off to Wrigleyville to party...we'll be looting at strange cargo :P
Wow, I was on PBS and didn't know it!
Apparantly, Greg Kot and Jim "D-Ro" DeRogatis landed a show on PBS, and I was on the second episode enjoying the Polyphonic Spree show at the Bottle. Scary shit...now we have to worry about people seeing us be dorks at shows? For those in Chicago, this airs again Friday at 11:30 pm and Saturday/Sunday's midnite. Thanks to my boss, John, for spotting me, I think!
Sorry no post!
I took a couple days off, and you didn't miss much. Just chilling, gonna party all insane though tommorow in anticpation of the cubbies going to the world series!! WAHOO!!!

Pretty Girls
Neko at Schubas was fantastic...but duh! It was a lovely evening, and a lovely day over all, with the cubbies winning, and something else happening at work that made me giggly, but I'm not gonna get into that here.

"Politicians do all the talking, soldiers pay the dues, Suddenly the war is over, that's the news."
wow, merle haggard was on letterman doing a war protest song...kind of a media/gov't protest song. I bet the 'country' stations aren't playing that.
More info here.
This is silly, yet interesting

I dunno, I'm having fun with this one, it's voyeristic, but not insanely creepy. lava lights, suave lotion, blink-182 posters.

Amazing things you didn't know about me part 2
I had malaria. Twice. I got it when I lived in Papua New Guinea.
Superstar
After the Cubs crushing defeat, went out and partied with Jasmine's crew while she went home and packed for the road. Hooked up with Kevin (EL FAMOUS!) and went and did some late nite karaoke at this amazing place I had no idea existed. Dylan's "Baby Got Back" was pretty incredible, and got the hoochies shakin', but I think my introspective version of the Growing Pains theme song was a moment....dedicated to Boner.

Heated Poll Race
Dark Horse "Terry the Nurse" is facing competition from "Ring of Fire". I didn't know ANYONE liked Terry, she was kinda the tight ass...must be those short little nurse dresses.
Light and Day
Word of Advice: when going to see the Polyphonic Spree, don't sit under the theremin, because you will feel like yr head will explode. I suppose that would be a cool way to go, but it might put a damper on the good time being had. They crammed 24 people on stage at the bottle (4 were in other creative placed) and put on quite a show, ending with a song from Hedwig! good time, good nite, would have done more partying if i my head wasn't gonna explode. took 600 mg of Ibuprophen, should do the trick. work tommorow, museums tuesday if i can find a worthy companion!

Yay Centro-Matic!
Centro-Matic were one of the first bands I saw when I moved here, way back 2 years ago. There wasn't many people at the hideout that nite, but last nite at subterranean it was pretty packed. I also wasn't THAT into them the first time I saw them, but I was pretty digging it last nite. Will Johnson has some of the most unamazing stage moves which kind of makes them amazing. AND sub-t has $2 cans of Point Special, the only worthwhile thing to come out of Stevens Point, WI. Jasmine also had her first white castle sliders, which was a momentous occasion.
