Happy Thanksgiving!
If i am so inspired I may make a list of thing I am thankful. One would certainly be Sooz's cooking, of which I will partake of. Mmmm. I am making my famous Cracker Barrel Green Beans...well, I suppose they are Cracker Barrel's famous. whatever.
anyhoot, working on a new site design, so brace for intermittent weirdness.

coooooold!
it snowed this morning. yikes. sadly, i slept through it. I do actually enjoy the snow. went and checked out Kevin O'Donnell at Schuba's, and enjoyed his music, and his nuts. Mike P. however could use a nut tutorial. I'm still phlegmy....like you need to hear that.

I Shoot Myself With Rock-n-Roll
holy hell, that was an experience! ususally, when GBV come to chicago they play Metro...tonite was the final of 2 nites at the Abbey with Tobin Sprout opening.
I didn't MEAN to be front and center, but I was. oops.
I survived, flanking tiny jasmine...i honestly didn't know people still 'stage dive' and 'crowd surf' at shows, but tonite they were. the stage diver was like some 50 year old dad in a golf shirt. I had some beer poured on me which was refreshing. I flinched the first few times bob twirled the mic, but then i realized he's a pro, and got okay with it.
we got nearly 3 hours of rock...Toby came out and sang on...fuck if I remember, but he DID play guitar on hot freaks! we were also treated to: glad girls, i am a scientist, motor away, tractor rape chain, postal blowfish, official ironmen rally song, everywhere with helicopter, best of jill hives, my kind of soldier, things i will keep, baba o'reiley...uh and like 50 more.
I managed to get my vinyl copy of alien lanes signed by bob ("That's a good record!") and toby, with some help from stan...thanks stan!

quote of the day
"i jsut dont like reducing the good fun i had with you down to body parts" ~craig p, typos and all
Hey yo
First off, here's my
Craigslist Pick o' the Day.
Otherwise, still recovering from my cold. Scored a sealed copy of Wilco's
All Over the Place yesterday at the other record store people go to in Chicago yesterday. How they scored multiple sealed copies is beyond me. hmmm. Sooz and I hung out in Walgreens tonite...sometimes we are WILD women.
Getting psyched for the GBV with Tobin Sprout show Sunday. woooooo! that is the sound of me being psyched. okay, gonna rest.

Sam's Craiglist Pick of the Day
I love browsing
Craigslist. I now present to you my
pick of the day. I'd love to see this cat's living room!
Yo...
I know nothing new. Nothing has really happened lately. I'm still sick and sniffly and working a hella lot this week. Not that I am complaining, it keeps me out of trouble. thus, nothing to post on.

Magnolia Electric Company...and Howe!
wow. Magnolia Electric Company (a new incarnation of Jason Molina's Songs:Ohia) was way incredible. Molina's songwriting is so compelling that they are probably the only band who could perform a set of entirely new songs I have never heard before and still hold me enrapt. Dang, dang DANG. I must also give props to Jennie Benford who sang lead on a song she wrote that was really excellent as well. I now have a new favorite band (that is not Wilco). Howe Gelb joined the band for the encore (which I believe was a cover) and just tore the roof offa Schuba's. My one complaint was it was a rather short set, but hell, it ended with a cover of "Werewolves of London" and the band played the only version of "Back in Black" with a Lap Steel as Molina left the stage. Also fun: got to blame Laurie Stirratt for playing "Heavy Metal Drummer" on the jukebox...of course I was blamed first. :(
anyhoot, Songs:Ohia's
Magnolia Electric Company is my favorite album of this year...the first Magnolia Electric Company (which they are recording this week) if it comes off anywhere near as amazing as the show tonite did will be my next favorite album. I can't wait!

Wow, this stuff is fascinating!
Sadly,
this site doesn't have a uniform from Mynanma airlines. When I was in 11th grade and living in Indonesia, my dad arranged a trip to Singapore for my friend Suzanne (no relation) and me. My dad was a thrifty guy, which was fine, since this gave me more spending money, and sent us there on Mynanma airlines. Repesented above however, is the uniform of Garuda, the airline of Indonesia. If I remember correctly, they had one of the worst safety records...

Too Tired to Turn the Lights Out
Edited, more reviewy...
The first time I saw Ted Leo was a free customer appreciation show at the Empty Bottle. This was the last show before he cancelled because of problems with his larynx. It was still a great show though, which is an indication of what a top notch performer Ted is.
This show at the Fireside Bowl was sold out and
PACKED. I was barely able to see Oneida, a great guitar driven almost psychedelic band, but everyone was rocking out, even without much room to move. The crowd shifted a bunch once they left, and I was able to squeeze up much closer.
Ted's energy while performing is infectious, and I don't think I've been to a show where everyone was just smiling! He played a good mix of stuff from Tyranny of Distance and Hearts of Oak, as well as some of the new stuff on the Balgeary EP, which he did solo. His charisma is intense too, flirting right back with the screaming girls yelling cute stuff to him. By the end of the show his long sleeve navy blue button down shirt was completely soaked with sweat, but it didn't stop him from getting in few more 4ft high leaps in the encore.
DO not hesitate to check him out if he comes to your town, even if you aren't familiar with his records. I guarantee you will leave a fan, and with at least one of his records in your posession.
I didn't really say much about Frog Holler at the Hideout Friday...that was a great time! Everyone who was there seemed to have a really good time. Their album
Railings is a good album, but they just tear shit up live. another must check out band.
Thank goodness I am off this weekend: Chic-a-go-go saturday afternoon, Songs:Ohia, sorry, Magnolia Elec. Co at Schuba's that nite, Jasmine home Sunday, then Grand Champeen and Two Cow Garage Sunday nite!! wow, i'm gonna need a vacation!

yeah that's right, i'm listening to Ryan Adams.
He's a rock star. This album does NOT suck like Gold did. I have faith in this guy, his Whiskeytown stuff was great, Heartbreaker is beautiful, but Gold is a steaming turd. Demolition had some good songs. Rock N Roll is not bad. Although So Alive really sounds like an early U2 song. Not to mention he is sooooooooooooo cute. So yeah, whatever. I like Ryan Adams. sue me.

is that a fog horn or my nose?
wah, i have a cold, and it is insanely foggy. are these 2 related? dunno. I will now use this space to sing the praises of the new Guided By Voices boxset
Hardcore UFOs. dang, this thing is cool. I am sooooo stoked for their upcoming show at the abbey. not stoked enough to make me not sniffle though.
Rainy Days
dang the precipitation won't stop. er, not much else to talk about. missed a bunch of good shows, booooo.

Kegger!!
went to an insane halloween keg party last nite. it was a good party. costumes included Axl and Slash, Wendy O. Williams and GG Allen, Prince, Jambi, Duffman, some nerds, god's gift to women, and my personal favorite, future mike. Cops came early, but it was allegedly about fireworks? anyhoot, a good time was certainly had by all.
