New Project Alert!
I've decided to do a seperate "blog" dedicated to these great chicago band websites. I'm stuck on what kind of tone to take with it though. You should see something soon.
However,
THIS is what I was up to today. Yes, it is sad.
And ohmigodness, how AMAZING was Carolyn Mark, Jim & Jennie and the Pinetops, Neko, The Sadies, Kelly Hogan, Jon Rauhouse? It was like the Opry dropped acid or something. Some incredible sounds coming out of there tonite.
zzzzzz
ohmigods, jem is out on DVD. And there's like a ton of the to watch. I'm tired. Neko and the Sadies tommorow, hooray, thanks judy. Oh I also have a new entertaining feature coming up: Chicago Bands You Should Know About.

The auto zone commercial
Has anyone else seen this Auto Zone commercial with the "jingle" that is really reminiscent of Billy Joel's "We didn't Start the Fire?" I can't decided if they really badly ripped off that song, or if it is a loose cover...it really bothers me.

The best flash game EVER
I'm not one to post links to flash games, but
Cynthia the Realtor's is pretty freaking great.
Dammit!
I seriously cannot find my upload cable for my camera. It's SOMEWHERE around here. I think sooz's is the same kind, some maybe she hasn't packed hers yet. off to work in a bit, it's kinda nice going in at 4pm.

A friend of mine is selling a 1955 Gibson J45. Drop me a line for pics, details, etc. it's in Chicago.
Saturday, March 27, 2004
whoa
What are the odds that the ONE nite you lock yrself out, there will be a set of keys, not yr own, outside on the concrete pillar thing by the door. Not excatly safe, but good for kristina and I who kept calling sooz and buzzing, because we were supposed to go out for B&G.
The rock was brought to the Wabash Tap though, until DP spilled his mixed drink on me. then the nite was ruined.
okay, not really ruined.

The Boy with the Poetry Power
oh come on, it was too easy
Yesterday I had the pleasure to enjoy a poetry reading by Jeff Tweedy. I was impressed that he didn't fuck up! I mean, that's not the kinda situation he's normally in, you know... anyhoot, it went well, and he was kind enough to sign my copy of
his book that sooz had purchased for me. We then enjoyed a lovely lunch and discussed my pechunga and homeowners.
After much deliberation over all the amazing shows tonite in Chicago including Josh Ritter and TV on the Radio, I have decided that Wabash Tap is the place to be for Two Cow Garage and Riviera. There's no way this show won't rock.
..And I AM working on getting pics from last week up, I can't find my upload cable!! hmmm...

Holy crap, what a long coupla days!
(please excuse my typing i am kinda drunk)
So I didn't go to sleep last nite, since i had to be at the airport at 5 to begin my standby journey. Finally got on a flight to Atlanta at 10:40am, but all the flights out of there to Jax were OVERbooked, fucking spring breakers. Steve got his friend Pete (and his wife and tiny baby) to DRIVE me to Jax, 6 hours, unfortunetly though, missing my mom's memorial thingy, the whole reason I came. I think the real memorial was done in the parking lot of the hotel Pete and family are staying at, drinking cans of Bud and eating bbq chicken in the parking lot. wow, things are so different here. It's nice to visit, and my family and friends here are cool, but, I don't think i could do this full time. now enjoying some lovely scotch and stealing internet signals. woot. ooh, I did pick up a "pecan log roll" at Stuckeys, so ya'll in chicago will definetly wanna get some of that when i get back.

Old pictures sharing time!
Remember the 80s? Here's RenÈe, Vicki, Mary and myself. I'm the naturally curly one :P
Thankfully, Wilco is NOT on this esteemed list!
Warning: Adult content, but some VERY useful information such as Duff McKagan is a quick shooter.
WTF is this??
Apparantly you can trade shares of samorama.com on
The Blog Shares Market. This is truly bizzare.

I knew it!

You're "The Ugly One". You don't look so
good. You might want to look into some
medication for your psoriasis. You have a
crush on every boy, but you'll never get any of
them.

I know , I didn't post anything new
Sooz was complaining. However, everything I am now going to post about she knows about, like how this foreign dude in front of me at Dominicks didn't know about the Fresh Values card, so I let him use mine, and he saved like 15 on 10 avocados, some Yoplait Nourish and a bottle of E & J Gallo. And Sooz made some delicious risotto which Daniel and I stirred. Amelia got some dinosaurs. I'm going back to Jacksonville for the weekend.
that's about it...

Old Picture Sharing Time!
Here's me hanging out with
Jennifer Lopez!
the weather channel meteorolgist, NOT J-Lo from the block. Though, she was Jenny from the block. I mean, we lived in a "subdivision" of "condos" but I guess it was theoretically a block. Los Robles Ct., to be exact. My brother also wants you to know that he dated J-Lo's sister...
Bob Dylan in Milwaukee
...stood up as he sang and played keyboard. he was also wearing some very sparkling pants. good show.
holy crap, did you see the moon tonite?

It's just weird
My mom's phone number is still in my cellphone. I can't call her anymore. When someone dies, they should take their phone number with them. I don't want to delete it. Like I'm just going to call her and she's going to answer.
Tuesday, March 09, 2004
What do you mean failed?
I got 43/48 on
this state test. I think that's pretty good!

Kraig Jarrett Johnson and the Program @ Schubas
Wow, that's a mouthful
Great show last nite with the "Wilco Lite" of Riviera opening (I'm KIDDING Derek, really). It's always nice when you actually LIKE the opening band of the headliner, so it was an all around fuuun show, not to mention those $4 23oz Sam Adams, and Kris insisting that KJJ "Fuck shit up, man!", a demand the band took to heart, and really did fuck shit up...the songs I'd only heard once @ the 400 Bar sounded good, the Neil Young cover sounded good, and the Golden Smog song sounded good. They said it was their first time playing Chicago, I hope they come back soon!

More Breakfast Sites
I love eating cereal, actually I don't eat it much for breakfast...Check out
the Empty Bowl, A site for the cereal eating community. Wow, there's a community I need to be a part of!
Coming Home Via Chicago
Oh come on, you knew I would have to use it!
Back in civilzation, thank the gods. Seem to have accquired some nasty cold like thing on the plane or in the hospital, I suppose. Not to mention since my head was all stuffy that it completely clogged up my ear so I was like deaf in one ear all last nite.
Despite the trip not exactly being a pleasure trip for me, there were a couple of highlights:
Food, like this meal at Famous Amos. Nothing like a meat and 3 veggies, and a giant glass of sweet tea. Also, the restaurants in Jacksonville are now non-smoking, which was nice.
RenÈe's twins, Devraj and Jayesh. They are soooo tiny and cute, and pretty darn well behaved. Made me think for like half a second that having a baby might be cool. Then again, I guess I really can't take a baby to a show at Schuba's.
It was good seeing people again that I hadn't seen in nearly five years, including family people. Patti and I went to a bar and drank leagally for the first time with my brother Steve. The bar wasn't as bad as I was expecting, they had Wilco in the 'digital jukebox' however, it never got played, thought we did get to hear "the watermelon crawl". Also hear a phrase I don't think I'll ever hear in a bar here: "You should have come to the monster truck show, it was soooooo much fun."
Glad to be home, glad to be greeted by Alison, Kristina, and Daniel at Midway. Glad Daniel carried the giant suitcase filled with family photos and dumb stuff I had left behind. Glad to be kissed by Amelia and scowled at by Vinnie and ignored by Judgie. NOT glad Sooz is still in Seattle. Glad to go back to work in a few hours.
