STILL no internet
this weekend, i beleive.
not much really happening. okay, that's not true. Saw the Frames at the Hideout monday... while they were definetly GOOD i didn't much care for them, there was a lot of fist pumping, so i had a good time.
last nite mike from delilah's called me to emergency DJ for willie nelson's bday. however, once he had picked me up at home and we were halfway there he got a call that joe had showed up, so i went and had a few PBRs with the gang.. er, if lane, jonny wilko and uh, that other guy whose name i can't remember but is a nice guy constitute a gang. oh, and graham biked to the bar. he's quite the biker. discussion of 16 hour hand jobs ensued.
upcoming fun: Jay Bennett at schubas saturday, which i am not really anticipating as fun to be honest, but i have hopefully talked a posse into retreating to the abbey afterwards for robbie fulks and evan dando, which should ACTUALLY be fun.
WILCO AT OTTO's MAY 19!! YAY! hell fucking YAY.
and the vic, and other places in june. hooray.
DJing at Delilah's June 23, don't say I didn't give you advance notice.
okay, hang in there friends, this place will be it's old self by the weekend!

Holy Crap, I need to Pack!
there's sooz standing where the fridge in her new place is. I am lucky enough to have retained my gig as roommate and pet auntie. However, I am the world's most amazing procrastinator, and really need to get packing. This may impede my plans to to go see the Sleepy Jackson with Centro-matic's Will Johnson. We shall see... I really should pack my damn iBook so I'm not distracted...
The Hideout was Closed!
I didn't notice anything on their website about being CLOSED on Mondays. It was weird, and sad. However, Stacy, Kristina, Daniel and I ended up at Carol's (since we got lost trying to find Simon's). James and his friend met us their and we enjoyed $4 pitchers of Old Style and pizza puffs. Well, Stacy had chardonnay. damn, who'da thought they'd even HAVE chardonnay at Carol's? The nite was fun, except I almost got in trouble when Daniel tried to show me the shat upon toilet seat in the men's room.

quote of the day
i bet hes nervous
and foreign
~Alison
yay!
My first pre-official release date listen to an actual not burned CD of the new wilco album on my own stereo. it is soooo different than anything they have done before, yet still so them. This album commands you to play it loud, even at 2:47 am. Thankfully, sooz doesn't hear so well. Okay, have decided during I'm a Wheel to turn it down. what a loud crashing kind of song. I really love it when this album rocks out and is fun. The rocking moments of YHF seemed kind of restrained, this one could inspire some bad dance moves. It's just so sonically bizzarre. In a good way. I don't think I'll be trying to sleep to this one yet.
Peep Porn!
Holy crap, this is some HOT stuff.
Provocative Peeps. Don't say I didn't warn you.

tired exhausted
not quite sure why.
stuff
Still haven't moved. Had yesterday off, spent it cooking and "hanging" with sooz, judy, sue and a variety of fuzzy friends. no, not like beard rock guys, cats and dogs. cooking is cool, as i do enjoy eating. stuff you were involved in the production of always tastes better. even if judy bled into the tomatoes :P even more fun was convincing her I was bleeding when my hand was just lightly covered in tomato sauce.
worked tonite. noticed when i took the garbage out tonite there were at least 4 stars visable in the sky, i think that's a chicago record. dang, im all tired and exhuasted.

more rock!
Tonite was Preston School Of Industry. I don't think I can rock one more nite. Ooh the Unicorns are tommorow nite!
I've decided to revise my top 10 albums of last year, I bump the Decemberists up to #4, and put BBR down at 7.

bleh
sigh. I'm listening to Reckoning, on vinyl. I just had to get up and flip it over. It bugs me that people say music is going to be all digital in the future. I love my iBook, and iPod, but I still want a physical object to hold, to turn over, to admire the cover of. If that means I have to buy a cd and an lp then so be it. I mean, what am I going to spend my money on? crack? I have weird issue about mortality. They say "you can't take it with you" but you can leave a lot behind that people have to remember you by. My mom had a lot of crazy stuff. One thing that really bothers me is people who collect stuff (of any kind) and don't use it, don't enjoy it. Someone was telling me about a really rare record they bought for lotsa $$, that is still sealed, since like 196-something. WHAT GOOD IS A SEALED RECORD?!?! for fucks sake, open it up! My mom and I collected these purses, and when i left them in FL when I took off, she put them on a shelf, which is okay, but she never used them. Collecting things is great, but you have to really use them i think... well, that's how i feel. i mean, i collect things that are functional, nowadays. except maybe the sock monkeys... they make me smile though, so i guess that's something.
holy fuck, look at me ramble. I'm just spacey zoney right now and trying not to think about other things. Other people. I'm fine. Just thinking about one thing, and worrying gets you thinking about other things.

ohmigods my new second favorite band!!
my new best friends, jenny and colin ;)
Holy crap, the Decemberists were soooooooooooooo incredible live. I was very sceptical that they could recreate the coolness of the albums, but by golly, it's just the five of them making that magical noise on the albums, and it came across so well on stage.
They started out with Chris introducing the band, and explaning that Colin had lost his voice so they were just going to play some experimental stuff they were working on, so we got some crazy free jazz before some smarty yelled out APRIL FOOLS, and the noise launched into "Shanty for the Arethusa", and then their absolute coolest songs just kept coming! I am sooo happy I got to see them at Schubas...they're playing Metro in June, I was afraid of that, but its cool, I'd love to see them getting a wider audience. ooh, and "the Tain" live was amazing, it just soooo rocked out.
the setlist:
Shanty for the Arethusa
July, July!
The Soldering Life
Oceanside
Billy Liar
the Gymnast, High Above the Ground
The Bachelor and the Bride
Myla Goldberg
The Chimbley Sweep
The Tain
encore:
Red Right Ankle
I Was Meant For the Stage
pics from the show soon!
