the rock was brought
to schubas by the men of two cow garage. after a loong day slinging records, i actually got a good number of people to show up for the show. however, i am beat, and this is going to be an insanely long week leading up to my vacation following wilco along the east coast sorta. working straight thru till friday, a week which will include no fewer than three shows perhaps, and my friend playing in the band for a musical(?). good gods, i am going to need a pre vacation vacation. and there was a lady in my bed tonite, but i shooed her home. :(

Two Cow Garage Saturday @ Schubas
From Mr. Lane Campbell:
It's been about 18 months since I first saw Two Cow Garage play their Chicago debut, at Wise Fool's Pub in December 2002. At the time, I was fairly blase about their first record, *Please Turn the Gas Back On*, yet excited to see them play after hearing great things from many, many people. Since that time, I've seen the band play about a dozen shows, ranging from sloppy to tight, but always fun, and usually, more-often-than-not, in fact, the band puts forth the type of life-affirming performance that reminds me what it's like to hear something for the first time, to be engaged by something unknown to you.
†They've just finished recording their follow-up record, *The Wall Against Our Back*, produced by Slobberbone's Brent Best, and, fortunate as I am, I have heard the early mizes and it sounds fantastic.
†Two Cow Garage has worked their way up the ranks, from that first Wise Fool's show, to shows at Martyrs', the Lyons Den, Gunther Murphy's, and now, finally, Schubas, the preeminent mid-sized club in the city.
†They'll be there tomorrow night, the show starts at 10pm. If you're not out of town visiting relatives or otherwise busy toasting marshmallows and grilling brats, I'd strongly suggest checking this show out.
†It's an important show for the band.
†They bring the rock.

and the wilco pics!
...and click that for the wilco pics. that one is of Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline, who is a REALLY incredible guitarist.
a ton of Sloan pictures!
click the pic for the album.
the Exclusive Outlet Mall is open!
sooz, kristina and I went out to oak park for an estate sale, and looked at all the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Then we decided to go to the outlet mall we saw on the way to DeKalb, not knowing it was opening weekend!! we made some great purchases and marveled that the Dress Barn is still in business.
I'll post the wilco and sloan pics soon...
okay, maybe a few pics before bed
I know I have complained about Metro on occasion, but HOLY SHIT the lighting for this show was INCREDIBLE. I am assuming the backdrop lights were Sloan's, but those and the house lights were just beautiful.
SLOOOO OOOOOOOAN or This song is dedicated to you, 'cause this song is for people who know what rock and roll is about.
Chris, posing especially for me. As he made this kissy face, I honestly giggled uncontrolably
way too tired to post, took tons of pics and had a really bad mood shoved right out courtesy of Sloan. The final encore song really put it all into perspective, and then I got that kissy face DURING it:
I can't invest my time
I've tried it all and I'm tired of trying
You think you've got it all figured out
And everything you think it's about
When you found yourself finally released
You hit the ground and kept running east
And now it's all catching up to you
As these things usually do
Saw it all and I can't deny
It's a hard life living a lie
If it feels good do it even if you shouldn't
Dont let people mess you around
Feels good do it even if you shouldnt
Nobody can mess you around
You're running away
Things would have been different
If you decided to stay
You can't wear your heart on your sleeve
If you're just going to leave
I can't invest my time
I've tried it all and I'm tired of trying
Saw it all and I can't deny
It's a hard life living a lie

some things never change
It's nice that even after his "stint in rehab", jeff tweedy is still generous with the cheese tray.
back from DeKalb
working dilligently to get my photos uploaded, the shows were amazing, except for the fact that i was suffering intense PMS the second nite. I know, TMI, but it really made things less fun for me.

loooooooooooooooooooooooong day or does not follow directions
after staying up late djing for sooz while she painted her room I got a mere three hours of sleep or so, and then got up early to help friends get tickets for Wilco at the Vic. My number in the "lottery" was no good, and the morning would have been a big waste except that I actually had fun standing in a line for an hour or so with Kristina, Graham, Bill, and Daniel. Then I cam home and got tickets for the Irving Plaza show, which was all kinds of stressful, then I went to work and drank lots of caffienated beverages. Came home, then Daniel and Kristina came over with some delicious Burger King Tacos to listen to some hot new jams, and Daniel showed off his new Batman gloves. I then attempted to make those chocolate cookies, but due to my fatigue did not follow the directions of the recipe, and used sea salt to boot, resulting in unsusally textured cookies, with random bursts of salt. This is no fault of the chips, which kept the cookie from being a total disaster. Tommorow nite I will make some GOYAÆ Empanadas. The nite culminated in a poetry/craigslist reading. I really should sleep. I have to work later today. holy zzzzzzzzzzzz

"new" sloan out today!
Not that I ever expect them to be a huge force in the US, but maybe a simulatneous US/Canada release would help their sales. This one came out late last year in
Canada, and finally Koch records (home of William "She Bang" Hung) is putting it out in the US, and with a couple bonus trax! (any candians who want the two tracks, let me know).
anyways, check out a full length song and samples
here, and consider buying the album, and checking them out live.

Ikea Mania!
After two trips to IKEA this weekend, i am now watching a documentary on the store. 1 in 10 europeans are now conceived in an ikea bed. I have an Ikea bed, and don't believe anyone has been conceived in it. Daniel came over and after a lovely dinner of lasagna on the new Ikea rug, we built some Ikea Bonde bookcases. We screwed around, yuk yuk, They were actually MISSING some screws though, thank goodness we had spare screws.

gname our gnome
i forgot, we tried to gname our gnome but weren't really sucessful. parhaps a poll is in order.
whew, tired
sooz decided to rent a car to go get some bookcase shelvey things at ikea. however, the place didn't have the car, so we wasted like 2 hours on state street waiting for the car. ikea was good fun ikea though... however they were out of the beech and she had to settle for birch. them bitches are heavy though, so we told daniel he should come help us take them out, and he did. we took the car back to midway, which was a lovely drive home with the top down and then ate at
White Palace. We then drove around the park and came home and oogled fiesta. well, daniel giggled at our oogling. this is a lame post... :P
quote of the day
"did you tell sooz i drove into her garage?" ~daniel

headache
not sure why really. stayed up late watching "videos" with graham. and discovered that the honeycomb cereal song sooz has been singing all week really exists. dude, what are the odds that this OLD commercial jingle she's been singing whilst eating her cereal would get shown on TV Land? i think that's pretty crazy!
whoa, i forgot how amazing andrew bird's weather systems is. haven't seen him around since january or so, hope he didn't move to europe after touring there.

So I heard this story...
about how there's this dedicated press (or whatever it is) at a record making place in chicago (where a lot of our favorite indie vinyl is made) that is only pressing records of L Ron Hubbard speeches to be listened to on solar power turntables after the apocalypse... I actually found something backing it up...
"There are now 1500 of LRH's lectures which have been recorded on solid nickel records, with a total weight of 13 tons. They had to develop a special playback system which runs on solar energy to play these records, and it is supposed to operate for a thousand years without any components wearing out. And all this is preserved in titanium "time capsules" strong enough to survive nuclear blasts."
damn, I want one of those players!
im all tired and such
not really sure why. i have a real weekend this weekend, WOOHOO! may go and check out vee dee tommorow at subterranean, the club whose name i never spell correctly.

samantha is the #177 most common female name.
0.124% of females in the US are named samantha.
Around 158100 US females are named samantha!

long overdue update
okay okay, here it comes. Saturday nite was quite a full nite. Started out at Schuba's with Lou for the Jay Bennett show. despite the late nite, and lou getting onery (drinking a freaking BEER even) we got in and suffered through the opener, who was sort of john mayeresque. Jay came out and did a few new loud songs with a drummer, then some quiet songs from the album alone on electric, and then this bunch of young 'stoners' came out and rocked out with him. It was all pretty good, except his version of the not quite release song by wilco "cars can't escape" made me sad. but hey, it's kinda cool to hear a different interpretation, if i must find a positive about it.
so then it was on to the Abbey with Kristina and D-sad for Robbie Fulks and Evan Dando. When we got there there was some gods awful rock band playing (i need to stop hanging out with old guys, making comments like that ;) so we went to the bar and had some of the abbey's delicous curry fries. mmm. then we rocked out to robbie, and then lou split. Kristina and i got right up on the stage and i proceeded to swoon over my high school rock star boyfriend, holy shit, did i have a crush on him. that picture of him in his pjs from spin, that was soooo in my locker. it was way rad, because he just played mostly lemonheads songs, solo accoustic. siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. I shoulda brought my camera. duh, i got a digital camera to take pictures at shows, then i dont take it with me.
so, yeah. sooz is back from the derby now, and has gone topless, and loves horses. WILCO IN DEKALB IN LIKE 2 WEEKS! I have gotten a lot of lovely records in the past few weeks: Joanna Newsom, Bonnie "Prince" Billy (it took me a long time to get into him...), Modest Mouse, Mission of Burma (ROCKK), Loretta Lynn (YAY), and though I don't own it, the Franz Ferdinand is pretty good too.
woot weekend off this weekend!
the impact of my absence was felt 'round the world
BACK!!
hooray, got the internet working at home now.
look out for posts tommorow! or later tonite, i have a LOT of internetting to catch up on.
