and oh yeah!
My birthday will be celebrated on September 5, my real birthday is the following day, which is Labor Day... so clear your calendars or whatever.
(and Tony, email me!)
okay, brief run-down on the weekend, or what i remember, or what left a mark
Friday: birthday shopped, went to eat with sooz, alison and kris. there were lots of fries involved.
Saturday: Birthday shopped, wrapped gifts, saw the Blisters in a gym, gave gifts, admired Jeff's new guitars, went to Beat kitchen, ate Shane's pizza bread since my pizza had artichokes etc. on it and all I asked for was goat cheese, drank lots of Blue Moons, many provided by Dick, rocked out to Two Cow, went back to Bart's with Stacy and Tony for a few, came back to my place with Stacy and Tony, proceeded to slip down the back metal stairs and am now covered in giant bruises. Watched TV, gave Tony wal-fed (walgreen sudafed, not some weird sex act),went to sleep (sorta)
Sunday: went and had gourmet pancakes, went to the flea marked and bought things like a fiesta gravy boat, portable 8-track player and a $1 web cam, came home and napped after not much sleep sat. nite, went with Stacy to see Donnie Darko Director's Cut. In the previews an Autumn Defense song came on, and we were both wearing wilco shirts, and we sang along and cheered. thank goodness there was only 4 other people in the theatre, one of which was curled up and snoaring halfway thru the movie. Went to sleep again (at home. not during the movie, which i love).

Happy Cake!
Things I Forgot:
Alison and Kris's Gift (sooz brought it!)
LeRoy's Birthday (I'm always like hours late. weird)
The Giant Whistling Sparkler in Stacy's car (this was intentional, however, Tony came running after me to let me have it. It was oddly touching. But there wasn't any touching. dear gods Tony, don't read this post)
Things I Remembered:
To put Kristina's laundry in the drier.
That Nora O'Connor and her band were really aweXome
The Judge is a cute kitty.
I like this Califone album.

Now I feel bad...
people check on me in turkey, i better be more interesting, okay here goes:
work today. yesterday i stepped off the bus and was walking then allova sudden my ankle went wonky. so it was all swolen and scary looking and today i was a little limpy, but i think it's okay. worked w/ adam, and we had a lovely busy day. then matt and that girl whose name i don't remember came and met us and we went to the hideout.
Katy asked why i wasn't at andrew bird and i told her it was cuz everyone wussed out on me and wouldn't go. i later find out that the reason matt came with us was cuz his brother went to see andrew bird, and the doorman at the hideout was his brother's roommate!! whoa, that's some kind of lame syncronicity.
I was gonna leave after 2 beers or midnite, whichever came first. I stuck to what came last and left after 3 beers @ 12:07. I had to be responsible since i'm opening, right? matt thought we should hang out more, so we made tentative plans to watch nasa select while listening to pink floyd. cliched, yet entertaining.
(i mean, do people really want to read this crap!?!?)

retiring my bag
after at least 2 years of service I have retired my pink bag which has faithfully served me in many endeavours in Chicago and distant lands such as NYC by stealing glasses from bars, carrying crap at shows, and most importantly toting records. RIP pink bag.

i bloodied my own nose and still won trivial pursuit!
what does howe gelb have in common with the teenage mutant ninja turtles? nothing, except that i got 2 90's questions in a row with the answer being TMNT whilst mr. gelb was playing. and depite giving myself a bloody nose from noah talking about getting eaten by a bear, i still won the game! thanks to alison and kris for having us even though i was bloody. what good friends!!
i gotta work in a few hours. i really can't complain though, because i love my job and nobody forced me to drink those delicious cold PBRs. i maaaaay go see the polyphonic spree tommorow, or i may not, we shall see...

which president are you...?
WTF?!? I think i'm more a James K. Polk.
technology
remember the good old days of making mix tapes? i don't, i have been so spoilt by making mix cds that i can't even remember how to make a tape anymore. A mix cd has turned into a double disc box set... it sux. i'd like to go back in time and make a mix 8 track. or what about like when reel to reels were popular. if i thought a guy was really aweXome i'd make him a mix reel to reel.
I bought sooz a mix i found at a thrift for her birthday (do i give great gifts or what?!) it was "happy dance" on one side and "love sad" on the other. "happy dance" started out positively with New Order, but then lapsed into very typical ca. 193 choices like the COPs theme song and Ace of Bass. boo... Things got more promising towards the end with They Might Be Giants and Simon and Garfunkle though. "love sad" should have been called "love suck" because everything on that side really sucked.
see our ad in the saturday evening post.
does anyone really READ the saturday evening post? is it still around?
nothing much happening, really. i think i'm getting old or something :(

sorry i haven't posted much recently, i'm kind of in a funk, and haven't been doing anything really interesting lately.
unlike coldplay, who according to MTV, are worthy enough to have a picture book about them... i wonder if it is as boring as their music? oops, sorry coldplay fans.

Finally, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It was looking pretty bleak there -- days and days of quiet, and no clue about whether you were going in the right direction -- but all that persistence is about to pay off.
verrrrry interesting. we shall see.

I won't title this one Via Chicago
Sooz, Mark and I made the long arduous trek to Milwaukee, WI on Sunday nite in anticipation of Monday's Wilco show. We stayed at the AMAZING
Executive Inn. So amazing it had rubber sacks over the matress, and Mark kept falling off his bed. We went and picked up Paul at the General Somethingorother Airport. Before the show Monday I was "interviewed" for the upcoming Thax Douglas documentary. Sooz built a lego racecar. Even with all this fun, there was STILL a very hot Wilco show at the "Eagle's Ballroom". It was a great sweaty show... and if you get the chance, check out the backstage ambiance with the glitter lamps and tent like atomsphere.

not much happening...
I did have noah convinced i was in a car chase after we saw
The Bourne Supremacy, which was a pretty good movie, especially if you love car chases, and really who doesnt?
