Hooray Madison!
Made the trek up to Madison with Dick where we met up with Paul and Brianne and hung out on State Street in front of the Orpheum theatre. We had fun checking out the record stores, Land's End "less than perfect" store, and eating (I lost my leftover Duck Struessel somewhere!). Late in the day (around 6ish) Dick and I started drinking at Paul's Club (there's a tree in the middle of the bar!).. we made a mad scramble for the balcony since the 8ft high stage they used last time was in effect this time. The balcony was aweXome though since it extended out as far as the front row on the floor! My beer consumption stayed high and details of the rest of the nite are a bit hazy.... Sooz showed up MINUTES before Deerhoof went on, and we went running downstairs when we noticed Thax was down there, but right as we got downstairs he vanished! Drinks continued to be consumed... sometime during the evening Sooz took a nasty spill. Afterwards we hung with Thax and the guys. Gum was spit, albums were insulted, eyes were crossed, tears were spilt. A good nite I think!

since Thursday...
saw Two Cow Garage with Stacy. It was the CD Release show and it was FANTASTIC! Mega rock. The new albums sounds excellent. Friday I don't think I did anything but work. Saturday hung out with Kris and Alison and then we went to a party with Stacy. Someone's mom made us have jello shooters, and we were told to squeeze and suck. We drank some pumpkin beer. K & A and I bailed to go get taco bell. Got Halloween costume parts today. woot.

oh hello
not much going on. I am overwhelmed with the amount of great music coming out in the past month, and getting a bunch of songs:ohia i don't have on vinyl. and the amount of shows... i mean, i guess i shouldn't complain really.
two cow garage tomorrow at the bottom lounge, and I'm eager to get their new one. a top ten is really gonna be hard this year, i'll have a top twenty. i think i'm getting sick. this sucks, with the wilco shows et al next week.
brianne sent me a link to
this picture. it's from the show in columbia...damn, sooz mark and i look really happy... AND you can see Paul's hand clutching a Fat Tire. damn, that was such a good nite.

yawn
while most of the day was spent doing nothing, we did go see on filmore at the hungy brain tonite. they played kind of an angry agressive set. i do tend to favor the vibey stuff like the new album but it was good to see glenn and darin get pissy on their instruments.
watched kill bill 2 and kevin smith's jersey girl over the past couple days, both feel good single parent movies. props to ben afflecks character for having a songs:ohia poster in his office.
Mr. Bubble is a good bubble bath.

argh i'm soooo tired.
but this weekend has been aweXome. Last night's Magnolia Electric Company show was fabulous... Kristina and I really enjoyed the openers
Palliard. MEC played more old stuff last nite, and some kick ass covers including "Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys" and "you ain't going nowhere". I asked Jason Molina to sign my MEC LP and he was impressed with how beat up it was. It's probably the only record I have bought new where the jacket is splitting. He signed the inner sleave though.
It's weird seeing him live though, I guess with him being my favorite artist besides wilco right now, and i've only seen him live like 4 or 5 times as opposed to uh, 70 maybe? for wilco. i always leave his shows a tiny bit disappointed at what they didn't play, but on the other hand it's cool that i will never know what to expect from him.
I finally gave LeRoy his birthday card today (it was way over a month ago). We celebrated Alison's bday today with a crazy bbq meal at smoke daddys. we got a round of beers because kristina found them a tray that matches the ones they have in there. Went to the Hideout and enjoyed ANOTHER band I really super love, Califone, in a more stripped down incarnation, and Orso, who were really super good.
gods, i need to sleep. psuedo weekend thru monday YAY.

Magnolia Electric Company!
Just got back from an awesome little instore at Reckless in Wicker Park... they were a 5 piece, no Jenny and no lap steel, unfortunetly, but they did Almost was Good Enough and I've Been Riding with the Ghost along with three new songs AND a cover of Bob Seger's Still the Same (dedicated to everyone who has worked in a record store, from the cutout bin!)... It was great to hear recognizable songs, last time at Schuba's they did nothing but new stuff (which i'm not complaining, anything he has to present is always compelling, even unfamiliar stuff in a live setting since his vocals are always SOOO up front)...
Anyhoot, off to Schuba's for the real show... They're my favorite band (beside Wilco and the Decemberists...) so check it out tonite at ten if you can!

but where did the red vines keep coming from?
okay, sorry i haven't been focused. it's my annual seasonal slump coupled with "aunt flo". it's so weird when something tiny becomes all weird and makes you wanna kill someone for like slurping too loud. shit, i hope the government isn't reading this/\.
Stacy and I saw "I Heart Huckabees". I have to disagree with Ebert and give this one a thumbs up. It made us think and discuss. Maybe Ebert isn't a stoner.
So what's up with this Nicole Kidman movie where her husband comes back to life as a kid and the kid is all "I love you you're my wife"?? kinda creepy.

what happened to crayon colors?
As I'm coloring a picture of Hello Kitty as a "Far Out Astronaut" I notice the magenta-y color I am using is called "Razzmatazz". Whatever happened to Burnt Sienna? Cornflower? Color names that MEAN something!!
oh well, these Hello Kitty coloring books totally rule though.

oh hey!
sorry, sorry. I have been neglecting ya'll.
Saturday was action packed, after working Gina, Kristina and I went a drinkin' at the Rainbo, and after being sufficiently drunk we went for ethiopian food (and wine) and then went to the Bottle for the Lesser Birds of Paradise and the Wrens. After being quized on my life history by a lesser bird Gina and I went dancin' at the hideout. and I kept drinking! woot good times.
Sunday Kristina and I took Gina to the airport then went to Woodfield. YIPES. Stacy found us there and we got pretzels. We did not find the shoes Sooz sent us to find, however. I don't think they exist.
yep.

101 Rock n Roll Jokes
Took a trip to scenic Indiana with John for some hard core thrifting; the day was virtually fruitless except for a jokebook, and the Wayne's World Dice Game. This goes nicely with the only other boardgame sooz and I own, Sweet Valley High. I always like to play as Enid, the unpopular girl, not at ALL like my high school day, why I was like rich socialite Lila!
uhhhhhh Kristina came over and had some delivery thai with us, and after getting loaded on champagne and cheesecake passed out on the couch... and it's a SCHOOL nite. okay, she didn't really pass out pass out.
