OMG I have Degrassi Fever!
I just found out that Degrassi Jr. High is coming out on DVD next month! And whilst still skeptical of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" I see on the program guide that there is some special on Noggin... Spike and Snake getting married! EEE! There's even a lot of the original characters! I guess this special is a few years old, but
here's the dirt on it...Guess I have to watch the new shows now! Which is cool, because KEVIN SMITH is going to be on it!

Woot Sleddin'
Okay, that pic is from last time, but Kristina and I went last evening on the super big sleds Alison got us, and it was RAD. we got BIG AIR and my hat flew off my head! I also had a run away sled, but managed to stop it by belly flopping right on it. There was an almost full moon and there were stars out... Graham has us over afterwards for Colombian hot chocolate. It was zesty! then we hit up Devon street for curry that made Sooz and Kristina sick... oh well, i was fine ;)

OMG what a weekend!
so i get a call last nite... turns out shaun... oh fuck, it's been so long i hope i spelled that right, but yeah shaun was in town! lucky guy, comes from florida on the snowiest nite in a long time, so we went and got amanda and her ferrets took out my insole and we went to the good ol' town hall where two long islands promptly knocked me on my ass, yet somehow i woke up at nine and worked a 6 hour shift. then sooz came and got me, and we got stuck in a few snow drifts, no joke! eventually a cab showed up and took us to the gallery for the andrew bird listening party/ jay ryan's art show.... swoonsville! red wine, beautiful people i love, it couldn't have been anymore beautiful really. holy crap. then some dance party action at the hideout. sigh.

Siiiiigh Colin Meloy at Schubas
thanks Wendy for the pic!!
First off: Hooray $3 Jack and Cokes at Schuba's on Wendesdays! Boo sold out crowd and being up front at the stage and not wanting to go get more!
The accoustic set by Quasar Wut-Wut was really cool. Shelly Short had a lovely voice, but swooon Colin Meloy. I'll be darned if I can't remember most of the set.. oh wait, I think he opened with Shiny... Apology Song, My Mother was a Chinese Trapese (sp?) Artist, a couple Morrissey songs, three songs from the new album (which I haven't heard yet, I SWEAR!! ;), Grace Cathedral Hill, California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade (that pic is from the transition, where he played a couple licks of R.E.M.'s Seven Chinese Brothers (OOH))... and a non album song. It was great to hear some of his songs so stripped down and in such a lovely setting, but it only made me pine for the full Decemberists show in April..damn, the new album stuff is gonna ROCK (oh wait I haven't heard it yet!!) I also made sure to buy a copy of the tour only Morrissey covers EP. He definetly picked some obscurities... and Everyday Is Like Sunday, one of my most favoritist "Mozzer" songs.
Holy crap, the amazing music week doesn't end here! ANDREW BIRD SATURDAY! OMG! OMG! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

Bus Fire!
So I'm getting on the Kedzie/California bus and you didn't have to pay fare (there was stickers over the farebox) which is cool, so I take a seat and notice the bus smells a bit weird. Not like peesoaked dude weird or puke in the corner smell... like burn rubber weird. So we go like a block and the driver announced we have to vacate the bus... the farebox was smokin', like ON FIRE! I didn't care, I was a block away... but yipes!
anyhoot, Kristina and I are going to see Colin Meloy at Schubas tonite! WOOOT! Man, what a couple weeks of music this is!
wow!
Props to Oxi-Clean. I sprayed it on my vintage pink poofy sleaved sweater with iceskates on it that had an icky red wine stain from our xmas party in 2003 and within MINUTES the stain DISAPPEARED!! whoa!

throw that guitar conor!
What a lovely show tonite! thanks to the dude who responded to my ad on Craigslist looking for a ticket and only charged me $20!
there seemed to be a LOT of confusion as to when the show started. the marquee said 7pm, the ticket said 7:30 but Tilly and the Wall came out at 6:30 and tap danced their way into my heart. Oh back up to the part where I officially became that old woman at the concert and willingly went up to the balcony for a seat and didn't even bother fighting the boys with eyeliner and 13 year old girls on the floor. I was alone though for a bit, managing to hold off seats for kristina who showed up RIGHT after TATW, and probably doesn't believe me when I was gushing about how great they were. I mean, they are 2 ladies who sing and play percussiony things, a tap dancer! a guy on keyboards and an accoustic guitar, and they covered journey!) and alison and kris showed up a little bit into coco rosie, who were good, but a bit toned down after TATW... It was FREEZING cold in there, especially since kris's seat was on top of a pipe that was blowing cold air on him. not to mention the faygo (fuego?) encrusted crumbling facade... uh anyhoot, after thax read Bright Eyes No. 3 Conor and co. came out and rocked our socks off, but our mittens back on. I'm serious, you couldn't hear any applause from us. I am looking forward to the new album(s)! mostly new stuff was played, and it sounded GOOO-HUD. yay! I hear he's coming back and playing the more electronic-y stuff soon. woot!

Yay Winter Sports!
After searching hours for snow tubes Kristina, Alison, Kris and I met Graham at some park for some tubing down the snow covered hill. However, the tubes just didn't work that well and we had better luck on:
ïbroken plastic sled pulled from trash pile
ïCity of Chicago trash can lid
ïawesome 2 person sled that these kids lent us when they borrowed our tubes. we were gonna trade 2 tubes for the sled, then the deal changed to the sled for $8 so they could go ice skating. nobody had any change, so no deal went down. Fun was had though. We just need to find a good plaastic sled, and not the week that it snows really hard, apparantly.
Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs.
Whoa, whoa whoa. We are barely a week into 2005, and I have already heard my number one album of the year. Jason Molina, you have a tough act to follow, and Colin Meloy, close, but no... well, we'll see when I get the full package into my hands. I'm such a dork that packaging will be a factor. So far, AB is way far ahead, what with a different Jay Ryan illustration for EVERY FREAKING SONG. as beautiful as
Weather Systems was, this kicks its ass on so many levels. wow. wow.
and on non chicago "rock god" news, kristina, alison, kris and i put in a full nite at the rainbo, tonys burrito mex, bottom lounge (to cheer on Vee Dee at the Rory Lake Battle of the Bands) and hotel SnS. wait, i guess a few rock gods were encountered among the way, scratch that.
tubing tomorrow?

Pics of Tweedy and Langford at the Second City Thing
...can be found here. They all look kinda the same, since I was one foot away and had the camera on the table, oh well. Here's a sample:
Hooray for Me TV!
It's funny that I alway whine about good videos going by the wayside on MTV, but good TV has diminished on Nick at Nite/TV Land now... I mean Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? come on!! So this local channel now has all the actual CLASSIC shows I love like Get Smart! HOORAY! Looks like their Sunday lineup includes Punky Brewster, Mork and Mindy and the Monkees!
I fixed the archives
now you can like totally dig up some dirt on me.
New Year New Design!
Please Welcome Nels Cline's feet and pedals to the top of this here bloggy thing. Thought I'd make the most of being snowbound and be productive in one way. Still working on refreshing all that stuff over there ~~~~~>
things could always be worse, right?
I mean, at least I'm not a tsunami victim, I am merely displaced because there is a leak in my wall and my room is all rearranged due to a big patch o' wall eing removed so I'm aerobedding it in the living room. And there's like a bajillion feet of snow out there. I wonder if we get snow days? it was really treacherous out there tonite.
Wilco on Letterman Friday... wonder what they play?! teeheeehee.
