R.I.P. Paulo
SYDNEY, Australia - The drummer from 1980s Australian rock band Crowded House hanged himself in a park in southern Australia, an emergency services spokeswoman said Monday.
Paul Hester, 46, went missing on Friday. His body was found Saturday in a park near his home in the southern city of Melbourne, said Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman Liraje Memishi.
Hester played in several small bands before joining the New Zealand group Split Enz in 1983. He and Split Enz singer Neil Finn formed Crowded House in 1985 with bass player Nick Seymour.
Crowded House was much more than a "1980s band" for me. They were one of the first bands I ever really fell in love with, and I think Paul was a big part of that. He was always the goofy fun one in the videos and on interviews, but apparantly there was a lot more going on in there. They were one band I always held out hope for getting back together... I never got to see Crowded House live, and it really isn't Crowded House without him.

happy peepster!
Easter is an alright holiday when you're in it for candy and ham and friends. I had all of those! Plus the Peep Candlescape:
Quote of the day

I had this dream a few nites ago
...though it might have been a morning dream. anyhoot, the shins were playing in my basement and the started to play new slang and it was really soft and thax was talking loudly to some friend of his, and I had to shush him and say that's my second fave shins song, please be quiet! he was kinda cheesed, then i woke up.
OMG ELO SAT!
In otherwords, Edward Burch and John Peacock's amazing tribute to ELO (that's Electric Light Orchestra to you, kiddies) is this Saturday at Beat Kitchen! If you didn't go last summer at Nevin's you are a damn fool! They do like a full show with strings and Jeff Lynne's hair... it's better than some hockey arena in 1977, I mean I think, I guess I wasn't around then. You know, when they show old concert footage on VH1 classic? those old timers are really having some good times in arena watching kinda shitty bands play. Thank goodness we are far more enlightened these days.

Now is the time to check out Two Cow Garage
I've talked a lot about Two Cow Garage, and how awesome their live shows are. If we can't help them out, there might not be anymore live shows:
The van's engine is shot. We're in a deep dark hole. Without the van we're shit. So....if any of y'all haven't bought any merch in a while, it's our desperate plea for your assistance by visiting the store on the website and buying something....anything.
It's quite humbling to have to beg....but it is what it is.
Thanks for the continued support either way. We're very lucky to have each and everyone of you pulling for us.
--Two Cow Garageso if you have ever thought about checking them out, now would be a great time, they even have a live DVD available so you can get some inkling of how fucking ROCK they are live. This is one of those instances where buying a CD is really going to help out. CDs can get these guys back on the road: mp3s downloaded won't. They do offer a few mp3s to check them out (I love
this one, myself)... If you like what you hear, or if you think a friend might dig them, please, buy an album! I really love these guys (the band and the boys themselves) and hope true music fans can make a difference.

I think Monday nights are really back now
tonite got it just right. Sure a few things are different: lack of LeRoy, no more reckless abandon of consumption of PBR (spending a few extra dollars on better beer is worth it in the morning) and rotating bartenders, but the vibe and drunkeness was there tonite. And while I'd rather have kept drinking, a trip to the Hollywood Grill afterwards was pretty fun, and ending the nite with shots of half and half was at least festive. Ed did Xanadu tonite. XANADU!! I absolutely cannot wait for Ed's ELO tribute at the Beat Kitchen Saturday. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you go.

What is going on here?

these bunnies hang out in a mushroom and are doing chemistry. I'm suspicious. they are living on our mantel now though, with some other bunnies painting eggs and a sinister pirate.

finally, the hello kitty item i was waiting for
Those who have visited hotel sns know that the downstairs bathroom is the hello kitty bathroom. As a housewarming gift, sooz got me some awexome HK bathroom accessories, including a toilet brush holder. yet one thing eluded me: the proper HK item for my toilet itself. there were some sort of nice toilet seat covers... but they just didn't strike my fancy. Tonite we were in KMart and I was looking wistfully at the soft toilet seats... Sooz recommended I get one and cover it with HK stickers... a good idea but...
so we're at Target, and in the weird bathroom accessory aisle there it was: the soft hello kitty toilet seat. $15!! SCORE!!! it is soft, warm, and features hello kitty in a tub with her soapy duck!! mission accomplished!!

aaah monday nites
monday nites are back, with a few notable exceptions: the tamale guy shows up and I can't really drink PBR anymore. I find my disposition improves greatly by NOT drinking as many PBRs as i possibly can, and instead drink a few less slightly higher quality beers. Last nite Ed Burch along with John Peacock and Steve Frisbie (wow, that is a collection of last names!) played good good songs and I enjoyed Blue Moon, tamales and VERY MOIST brownies with some friends, and later still a cider and had good times. I love music, people, food and beer. Make that music, food, people, beer in that order.

soooo tired
so i had a couple days off and did the ususal (thrifting, partying, swooning) and the unusual (helping some friends stuff some stuff in some pods)... Saw the faux-hawks (aka Gary Louris and Mark Olsen courtesy of poor Lou (more stones!) and Rosie tonite with a gaggle of friends and we ended up boogying at the hideout. oh of very important note, my wilco vinyl collection is now complete. I have all their recorded output on vinyl (the only full length not on vinyl appears to be Mermaid II, dammit). Thanks for ending my quest painlessly, Jeff. Currently listening to Skygreen Leopards, contemplating parade tomorrow, why does it have to be sooo fucking cold? i'm not one to needlessly complain about things I have no power over, but please come soon spring!!

The best candy bar EVER

Finally, the best candy bar ever has been made. Snickers would be okay, but you have that damn nougat with the peanuts and caramel. Peanut Butter cups are okay... but they need more peanut butter... and wouldn't these things be great with some salt on them? Lo, the Hershey's Take 5! Milk chocolate, caramel, peanuts, peanut butter, and....
PRETZELS. That's right, salty crunch pretzels!! One of these and a steak and yr set for life!!

Fuckin' Woo
whoa, what a day! Saw Riviera, Jeff Tweedy, Two Cow Garage, a bar room brawl involving Lc. and the last Slobberbone show in Chicago EVER in that order. My brain is still swimming. Jeff played Dash 7 for only the third documented time in history. I was picked up and spun around several times at the Abbey Pub bathrooms. Paul and I ate some White Castles. CanJudy brought me a big lovely bag of Smarties, but they were seized as contraband at the door at the Vic. Otherwise, can't complain.
