I totally have a caterpillar rash.
Back from the trip. there is a rash from the caterpillar on my neck, Paul doesn't believe me. So everyone who has seen it, please let Paul know when you see him. Houston was some mellow fun, but the show was way rocking and intense. Brianne, Gina, Paul and I tried in vain to find somewhere to eat downtown, but we went back to the suite for pizza and wing delivery. Sunday Paul and I had delicious BBQ in Texas, then I came home.
Tonite we went to the Hideout for Ed, but there was no Ed! My brother gets here Wedensday and I can't decide if I should make him go see Animal Collective and Ariel Pink that nite.
(OMG, Sufjan's Illinois is sooooooooooo good!!)

New Orleans mini rap up
I'm too tired to go into much detail. Saw Wilco twice, was confounded by "Cowboy Mouth", impressed with Healthy White Baby and Peoples Revolutionary Army of St Bernard (if that is the correct name?), ate delicious food, crazy frozen bevs, hung out with good people, was disgusted by idiotic bufoons, and attacked by a bloodsucking caterpillar. Perhaps some more details to follow.

It's like I'm in a giant Popeye's Fried Chicken Commercial
Paul and I just arrived in New Orleans! woot! more later!
oh crap
so april came thru at the last minute and said i was on the GL for M Ward. So I went right after work (TEN MINUTES to the Abbey from the store!) and Devotchka were just finishing up. Drunken haze, amazing set... if kris and xtina make it to work tomorrow i will be impressed, paul and i merely have to be up by 6am or so on the way to midway. I think i am not going to sleep tonite. oh, and thanx to thax for helping us home... M Ward #2 really had us all going. Why burn your bridges when you can blow them up!

It worked!
I am awake and the laundry is in, thanks John. Something is up with my phone alarm clock though, as in it is just not going off. My real alarm clock (sooz's old one) has broken in such a way that you cannot adjust the hour with the hour set button, so the alarm is useless now. In fact, to set the clock itself for DST I had to plug it in during the 12 am hour and set it then. hmmm.
if you're reading this...
and it's between 10:30 and 11:00 am CDT, give me a call to coax me out of bed to do a load of travel laundry, will ya?
wooot feeling much better!
Last nite after work had some semi outdoor drinks with Paul and Kristina. Tonite Paul and I went to the Bad Dog to see
Adam Fitz, friend and coworker at neighborhood bar (well neighborhood we work in) Bad Dog Tavern. Good gods, could the weather be any better? I work tomorrow, or I would totally try and catch M. Ward at the Abbey... as it goes, I will be lucky to try and catch some of the sets from Holy Crap! Bats! and
the Romeros (whom I met last Monday) at the Mutiny. I at least have to go see if Holy Crap! Bats! have any merch for sale, as they have the best band name EVER! Then Paul and I are off to New Orleans and Houston to see some damn Chicago band. then next Wednesday
my brother is coming!! yes kids, that's right, lock up yr children, Roland Steven Parker will be in Chicago!

We Went to Mars
..or our amazing Wisconsin adventure.
photo by Brianne, from another time, same place...Alison, Kris, Paul and I drove (well, Alison drove, we rode) to the
Mars Cheese Castle and had a delicious lunch and loaded up on cheese and other Wisconsin treats such as
Big Butt Dopplebock. Then we went to the
Richard Bong State Recreation Area and drove through there. We saw an owl chilling on the ground. After that we got some frozen custard and fried cheese curds at
Culvers. AND THEN we found a mini golf place! I came in last, I have to think Alison was first, she's apparantly a golfer! who knew?! Paul kept getting holes in one, leading me to believe his ball was corked, or whatever. My grandfather was a golf pro, why am I so awful at it? oh well. it was quite the fun day, maybe next time we need cheese we'll do it again!

Are you made of calcium or are you carbon based?
Wow, it was Andrew Bird at Metro tonite, and it was the single most trancendental thing I have ever seen on that vast stage. He played with the fucking awseome (if I may say so) Kevin O'Donnell and all was truly magical (well, except for the fact that Kristina was unsucessful in buying me the Sovay single I should have bought the first time around at the merch booth, but oh well. I guess three different versions of Weather Systems will have to suffice for now). So yeah, totally incredible, nearly everything off the new album played with 1 from Weather Systems and one from Swimming Hour. It brought back the moment I fell in love with his music... at the Hideout on some random monday when he played a very early version of Mx Missiles, and gave this really crazy explanation of it. Since then I've seen him at random street fairs, the empty bottle, even opening for Ani DiFranco, and this eclipsed them all. His ever present aloofness was captivating, as evidenced by all the giggling girls everywhere. I have one gripe: no opposite day! boo, otherwise, no complaints. Especially when he played Eli's beeeeytooootiful sea green tele on Tables and Chairs. There is only one chicago rock star that can call me by my real full name and not get smacked, and he is Andrew Bird.

There was no fighting in a sack
...apart from that, my shins at the Congress (thanks paul!) experience was a-okay. oh, except for the BO guy next to me who was an over the head clapper. I cannot believe he didn't smell it himself. I don't know if I'd rush to see them in a big venue again soon (unless I fucking LOVE the next album, whenver that comes out. The rocked out Gone for Good was really cool. It's odd to be at a show with 15 year olds (and younger!) and get out at like 10pm.
oh, here's a reviewling of the MEC show:
Fun fun opening from the Coke Dares, thought I had to take a breather in the midst of their 25 songs in 45 minutes. Somewhere inbetween "the guys at autozone were assholes" and "you're not carrying a big box" I had to go take a breather... too intense for my woozy head!
I was a little excited when there were 'setlists' laid out (this will reveal me to be a front of the stage geek) as I had never noticed one at a s:o/MEC show before...and it seemed pretty lengthy! It was apparently just a list of possible songs they WOULD play though... I was not expecting to hear any of the last few songs on WCATB but the opener was a totally rockin'
"Hammer Down" that sounded so rad done electric. A great mix of stuff from the last two (well, the MEC album and WCATB I should say) and some live stuff I haven't heard played yet. They played a little over an hour, and when it seemed like there wasn't going to be an encore, the band minus Molina came back out and played the fuck out of "Almost Was Good Enough" with Molina finally coming back out and singing, sans guitar, like half of it, the said "that's all you get" and left. Quite the Vegas ending! No bitching on my part, I enjoyed every minute of the set.. a cover is always nice, but no biggie... I think it was the longest Molina show I have ever had the pleasure to attend! Paul and I ran around all dorkily and got our swiped posters signed (not the awesome silkscreened one, thought I did land one of those). Alex Millar was there, sauced out of his mind, and allegedly tossed out of Schuba's twice. Hooboy, can't wait til he moves back. (this is a test to see if he ever reads this damn thing).
So yeah. what a string of shows over the past couple weeks! and the Hideout Monday was off the hook, whatever that means.

woooo I've got vertigo?
I ended up going to a clinic in my hood for the uninsured. It wasn't the most posh place by any means, but I was pretty much able to afford it, and the meclizine I was perscribed. so hopefully now my brain will stop being weird.

yay Decemberists and I'm still dying boo
Saw the Decemberists with Okkervil River at Metro last nite w/Kristina and Soooooz. Such a great show, OR are sooooo great, I can't wait to get the new album (waiting for the vinyl...) I was a little worried about the Decemberists new lineup, but it was great, even though they are playing borrowed instruments since theirs were stolen (but are starting to be recovered from meth labs in Portland. Man, that's a Decemberists song waiting to happen. so yeah, new lineup good!
in me news, i'm starting to have scary body things happen that i have never had happen before. ick. boo. in fact, i see the quality of my posting is suffering because of this. oh well. hopefully i'm fine and will work tomorrow then run off for Magnolia Electric Co. @ Schubas. oh and please help me in welcoming Paul as a temporary resident of the Hotel SnS. and ALLEGEDLY my brother will be here the end of this month! damn, i better rest up.

I thought I was going to die.
First I thought I was having a heart attack, then a stroke. Then I started burping, and it seems I just have really awful heartburn. I guess I am confused that is not really burning, it feels more like everything is encased in some weird bubble. Oh well, I am still going to see the Decemberists at Metro tonite! I just won't dance too much :(

get well ed!
so sooz n i started drinking as soon as i got home on account of amelia being in doggie jail (don't ask) and we're all "Woot! Ed Burch! h/o!" so we go get xtina (i mean, sooz wasn't DRUNK, she could drive, i drank WAY more,) so we go to the h/o and there's a lil note on the door about ed being sick! so we came home and drunk more and made jewelry. then they all left/went to bed, so i kept drinking and watched crowded house videos (wah!) and am planning out my future wilco tourism. you know, i have NEVER been to Texas! and may i welcome SPRING!!!

Happy April Second!
okay, so remember that problem I had with my iBook cord shooting off sparks? the THIRD one I have had for my lappy is now shooting off sparks. Thankfully, there is a spare laptop around the ol' hotel s-n-s, so I can keep you up to date on the fact that not much is going on... next week however, a crapload of albums I am excited for are coming out, there is monday nite AND Decemberists AND Magnolia Electric Company AND Paul is coming for a few days...weeks... WOOOT! Two of my favorite bands in one week! wow, I feel like a giddy 12 year old.
wait, I don't think I ever was a "giddy 12 year old". hmm. And congrats to Kristina for having me going for a few hours on an April Fool. I rallied the troops and paid her back though, and I BETTER get something with peanut butter!
