blah blah blah
sorry, I haven't been feeling at 100% lately. There were like 800 shows I wanted to go to last nite, but I came home and slept from 8:47pm to 11:04pm (my first nap on my sleep log!). Of course for most people I think that would be more of a going to bed time thing, but I don't play that way. (do people still talk like that?)
On Friday (i think it was Friday) there was a dumb store about MP3 blogs in the Trib but Illustrating it was a REALLY large picture of SLOAN! That made me very happy.
The iBook ~~> PowerBook transition has been made. Dang, this thing is fast, and small. Ol' PBR 2.5 is serving Planet of Sound now though, so I still get to enjoy him. I just wish this guy (Lil' Brudder!) had a blue handle :( Apart from that, he's pretty lovable. I wonder what kind of case mods are out there for PowerBooks. I wish I could make him match my pink iPod mini. I really need to take advantage of the "power" on this guy. hmmmm.
Hopefully off to Pierogi fest soon!! Oh and Sooz's Mom is here, which is nice. She reminds me a little of my Mom... the good things anyway ;)

Whoops recap
This probably isn't the best way to do this, I bet I've forgotten a lot of important details. Dang, what DID we do Monday... Oh! We went to Sweets and Savories and this crazy delicious dinner (and drinks and dessert). Tuesday we took Natalie to the Rainbo. Is that place never uncrowded? (well Saturday afternoons I guess). It was cool finally meeting her! Did I ever talk about the Saturday nite Big Building party where Adam played a bunch of cover and no originals? Paul and I went with Angela, and that was fun, I hope we didn't scare her in our drunken insanity. I should probably take it easy tonite.

Here comes the sun.
It is supposed to be 110 degrees Sunday. At least I work in an airconditioned store, and Adam should be able to give me a ride. UGH!
Well this is really disturbing.
According to this site there are kind of a lot of sex offenders in my zip code. And there's pictures of some!

Meet Lil' Brudder
I am in the process of changing over from my beloved Indigo Clamshell iBook to the way more adult 12" PowerBook G4 that formerly belonged to Sooz. Its blazing speed is a bit disorienting. It is going to take a while to get him full of the crap my old guy is full of, but I will do my best. Switched to Firefox too, which I love but for some reason flash worked all crappy on iBook.

Intonation Fest Day Two

Today at the fest was a lot more intenese. All the bands we cared about "seeing" were on one stage so we staked out a spot front and center. Dungen were incredible. I had an idea of what to expect but was totally blown away by them, so much so that Paul and I are going to see them at the Bottle on Tuesday. The lead Swede plays flute sometimes! Out Hud was an awesome dance party even with the oppresive heat. Andrew Bird (with Kevin O'Donnel) was hands down the most intense performance at the fest, and maybe that I have ever seen from him. The new song (Armchair Aprocrypha?) was soo soo perfect, I was just floored. At some point Tim magically showed up with a couple cold beers, and I kissed him. It was kinda downhill from there for me, though I enjoyed the Wrens a bit more than the first time I saw them. Their performance is special, I just don't know if I love their music. So I was all excited for the Decemberists, but something weird happened: I just wasn't that into it! They played all the songs I love, but I'm just kind of bored by their shows now. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm not crazy about the new album, I have no idea. ... I don't know. It's okay though, Andrew Bird made up for it completely.
Quote of the Day
"Teddy fuckin' Grahams! Is this on Xiu Xiu's rider?" -The guy from Out Hud, who were really really good.

Intonation Fest Day One

What a lovely day! It was hot and sunny, but gods, Magnolia Electric Company were so incredible. It also makes me really happy to hear Jason Molina has moved back to Chicago. Just an overall good day, saw lots of friends and met new people and finally go to see Bonnie "Prince" Billy in the flesh! His DJing with Jean Grae was totally a highlight. Yay tomorrow!

All talk of circadian rhythm
I am participating in a sleep study. Well, I guess I am being monitored to see if I qualify I guess. I get to keep a sleep log and
wear one of these like a watch! A watch that doesn't tell me the time, and I keep looking at it to get the time. If you haven't noticed from these post times, I am a bit of an insomniac. I'm most productive in the evening/night. Well, productive is relative of course. After I did the paperwork and got the sensor thing, Kristina called to tell me that some restaurant was having $1 champagne for Bastille day. We had foie gras and beet and goat cheese risotto! We will be taking all our foodie friends there. Paul is here, and we're all going to Intonation Fest tomorrow to bake our fucking brains. Sunday is gonna be miserable and disgusting, but what the hell, it's some of my fave artists in the WORLD! Maybe there will be some freak cold front. I would be remiss if I didn't mention my second birthday present from Paul, the Scott Walker boxset! It will suffice until I get all the albums on vinyl ;) The first present was the fuzzy cover version of the Bee Gee's Odessa in amazing pristine condition. The Scott couldn't have some at a better time, ever since the Sloan show I have been on a chronic Sloan kick...I just couldn't listen to anything else on the iPod or at home. Now I can gorge on Scott.

My Life Resembles a Movie and Now It Has A Sequel
I guess I kinda set myself up for it though. I was playing the record of someone who came in while I was playing the record. Though he reacted well by saying something along the lines of "These guys are good! Who are they?" It would have been worse if I was wearing the t-shirt too. I try not to do that though, play the album of a band whose t-shirt I am wearing. Of course, I try not to wear that band's tshirts too much in Chicago because I have on numerous occasions run into a member (or ex-member) of the band while wearing the shirt. And it's like "duh, I like your band." Come to think of it, it's happened with a few Chicago bands. I guess I should just wear Canadian and UK band shirts.
Still suffering from the cold/flu thing and also a ridiculous swollen side of my left thumb. hmmm. ooh the Decemberists were on Conan tonite and did "We Both Go Down Together". It was super lovely, but I kind of wished they would have played "16 Military Wives" and had horns and crap. Oh well. I get to see them this weekend at the Intonation Fest... 3 days, 8 hours, 19 minutes, and 51 seconds left until the Intonation Music Festival! (According to the thingy on Pitchfork).
Oh man, the Surreal Life was pretty intense. It's kinda funny they found a woman who make Omarosa look like an angel. What is Janice's problem? Man, if Bronson Pinchot was putting the moves on me, I'd be all up ons!!

People of the Sky?
It may have been that song, but it's some Andrew song, and I am the second grinning idiot from the right really enjoying myself. (thanks to gena for sending it and other really amazing pics to the
Sloan Site... are you the person I met in the Happy Food Spot?)

I think I have the fucking flu
Which sucks because I had near infinite possibilities for doing fun things, but I didn't feel like going out. So here I am, in PJs drinking Theraflu listening to Magnetic South on vinyl. Gina and I just finished watching the Sloan DVD, so yeah, things could be worse. I think my body is all out of wack. Sigh, I will take it easy tomorrow.

Sloan!

Good good show, except that Jay was sick and barely sang on "The Lines You Amend", otherwise though, such a great set, drawing on all the albums (not only the best of or last 2 albums). It was nice to see them at the kinda small Double Door, but the lighting was not really good for pics. I think that's one thing I love, is that they play everything. sigh.

oops late post
Woo the fourth of july!
after a few setbacks (thought the ride in the Mustang was cool) Kristina and I finally got on the Metra to Naperville and managed to plop our chairs down in the rain and get our umbrellas up just in time to hear Loretta Lynn sing Coal Miners Daughter. Then I ran into the Caterers (the family, not the uh, you know) and then we finally found Stacy and had some ribs and other food and enjoyed the fireworks. we did NOT go see Umphrey's McGee.
Not much happening here, sooz is away for a few days, but I am going to see SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAN tonite!!! EEEEP!! WOOT! HOORAY!

The Way That He Sings or the Town that Found its Wilco Supply
Oh, the Louisville adventure. Sooz, Amelia and I headed out Thursday morning. We got there and I was dropped off at the "deluxe accomodations" I was staying at with Brianne and Paul. We went and perused
ear X-tacy. I give them a million star rating for having a Scott Walker section but keeping them from a billion star rating is the fact that they file Wilco in alt-country. So then we
met up with even more folks and went and ate at
Lynn's Paradise Cafe. I had the ham, duh. After food, we made our way to
the show, and were delayed a little bit after some snafu with the
"VIP seating". The show? It was way hot in there, which is one of a few things making it not my favorite ever. Oh well, everyone was pretty friendly afterwards and
I got to "meet" Jim James from MMJ who opened. Some drinks were drank and Steaks were Shaked, and
Paul passed out on the floor.
Friday afternoon Brianne and I departed to go back home, and ate at the KFC Buffet! Chicken Livers! Sweet Tea! Alas, no Choco pudding crunchy stuff, as we just missed the last two portions. So we're almost at Indianapolis and Brianne noticed a
this place so of course we had to hunt it down and find out exactly
what they are supplying! We talked to some of the fine folks there, who assisted us, and we were back on the road again... Stopping at Stuckey's for Boiled Peanuts and Taffy. NO PECAN LOG ROLLS. I kid thee not though, we saw
the Girls Gone Wild Filmcrew. they got some nice shots of us, and we made yet one more stop at a rest area. Upon perusing the vending machine selection, I noticed (Actually I think it was Brianne) that there were Compact Discs in the vending machine! This was a stroke of luck because I had left a few behind at our "deluxe accomodations" So based on the tracklisting went with
a selection by Betty Tetzlaff. I got a bargain, since she sells the CDs on her website for $10. She's a blind country singer/songwriter that if you have a lick of sense in you, you'll be checking her out. Maybe she can get a gig at the Hideout? Oh wait, it's not over yet: We stopped at a fireworks store in Indiana! It was kind of odd and run by a couple fratties. Brianne bought the Just for Kids Pack and I purchased some sparklers, a "freaky fountain" and some Bumble Bees. We got back and ate with Gina, then tried out the fireworks. The Bumble Bee flew like 20 feet in the air! It's probably illegal, and I only used one out of the like 60 I got. Oh well, Holidays are coming. The sparklers, however, are really crummy and made of paper, not metal, so I threw those away, and have to hope Sooz can get me some on her way home.
Whew.
