I made it!

I survived the taking of my blood. I just remembered what everyone told me, that it would not hurt, and breathed, and it was fine. The hospital is nice, i get limited cable... i hope there's an X-Files marathon on tonite. I'm on dial up, just plugged right into the phone. The food was...bland. if someone smuggles me in a candy bar, i will be eternally greatful. ooh, better yet a bag of chips!! I can have visitors ANYTIME.

oh yeah, update

I was doing so good for a while there. What has happened the past few days? Not a whole lot, saw Rhett Miller at the Abbey Friday nite, Saturday party at James's (what is the correct spelling for that)... I threw together a "80s new wave chick" outfit from my wardrobe, aka background character in a John Hughes film. I think that might be all. I go into the hospital tomorrow for four nites for the sleep study. I am armed with books, DVDs, magazines, Game Boy and RPGs... I should be set really. I have been told I will have internet access, so I should be able to keep you posted. I am allowed to have visitors, so if you are in the area of Northwestern Hospital off Michigan Ave, please coome visit.

The end of a big streak of shows

...was ended tonite with Devendra Banhart at Logan Sqaure aud. Man, if a bomb went off over there, 90% of Chicago's young awesome hipsters would have been wiped out. Thankfully it didn't, and we enjoyed a pretty rockin' set from a dude who has a reputation for being a folky. A really really fun set, even though the young awesome hipsters in the back where we were would not dance. I found it impossible not to kinda jump around and be swirly.

Last nite was Jim and Jennie and the Pinetops... I wish more young awesome hipsters would make bluegrass music. Heck, they'll be at the Hideout next month, I encourage you to go. That's right, GO.

Less than a week 'til I'm in the hopsital, ugh. I am just gonna close my eyes and breathe and it will all be okay, right? I'm not even sick or anything. Hmm, I wonder if my condition is a disability? anyhoot.

Oh good gods.

I enjoyed half of the My Morning Jacket show, aka the half where they played the old and the rocking songs. I did not enjoy the half where I let my heart get torn from my chest and tossed down from the balcony bar, or the crummy newer jammy songs. I enjoyed my time at the L&L afterwards where beer was consumed and I played 18 songs on the jukebox, the only R.E.M. album they had was Pageant. Santullos I kinda enjoyed, the company for sure, the greasy pepperoni and pitcher of bud, the verdict is still out on. I did however drop my mix tape off at the mix tape station, I hope someone loves it. I'm back on sleep log tonite, and wearing my light monitor. hot damn. flea mkt and jim and jenny and the pinetops tomorrow? we shall see. Sounds like paul is still playing tetris, i am alarmed and impressed. ugh.

LET US ALL CELEBRATE!

INTRNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY - OCTOBER 22 IN HONOR OF TODAY I WILL LEAVE MY CAPS LOCK ON UNTIL I CAN NO LONGER STAND IT.

SHOULD I WAKE PAUL UP? I'D REALLY LIKE TO GO TO HOT DOUGS TODAY. MY ROOM HAS BEEN INFILTRATED WITH KITTIES. SINCE THE UTI ISSUES SEEM TO HAVE CLEARED UP I THOUGHT I'D GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY REALLY LIKE ME AND ENJOY LISTENING TO RECORDS WITH ME, OR THEY JUST ARE ENJOYING A CHANGE OF SCENERY. VINNIE SEEMS TO THINK THE ENTIRE BED IS HIS.

Purple Stuff, OJ... SUNNY D!

Did you know they have officially changed the name of Sunny Delight to Sunny D? Paul and I were shopping for the Nintendo Party, and I got some for the guests. It's kind of a watered down OJ really, pretty tasty. The party was a great success, especially when Lucas started providing live music for the games. Then the speak n read AND the yamaha sampling keyboard were busted out and all noiseyness broke loose. WAY better then that Tetris music! Paul was very good at Renegade. OOh, and Brianne brought us candy filled with REAL BUGS! Nobody ate any. Patti, I'm not even gonna tell you what one has in it.

Games I need to get:
Excitebike
Gauntlet (I & II)
Burger Time
Paperboy
Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf

(okay, not really on that last one)

MMJ tonite! And hopefully Blue Island Party! I need to get my wig!

OMG New Pornographers RULE!

And so does part-time pornographer herself Nora who is about to have a freaking baby! Man alive, they were so incredible, totally getting that insane lush sound from the album, and Dan Bejar stumbling out once in a while to do his songs, and the tambourine switcheroos... man oh man! After three nites in a row at the Metro, this was just the most rocktastic. I have never hung in the balcony for a show, but I had a fantastic view. It was lovely schmoozing and seeing everyone, and they're gonna be playing New Year's Eve there! Man, tough call between that show and Umphrey's McGee with Keller Williams. uhhhhhhhhhhh.

Oh I have a problem.

I have downloaded ahead 2 episodes of Degrassi. Don't read anymore if you are the one adult reading my site that watches the show and cares what is going on...

CRAIG!! You stupid fuck! Why are you going for Manny over Ellie?!?!?!?!?!? I hate you. I hate Manny. I wouldn't hate you if you picked Ellie. UGH.

okay, two nites of Decemberists. I am not as down on them as I was after intonation. Last nite's show was a much better setlist, but lacking energy. Tonite the band was into it, but not as good songs were played, except Mr. Blue Sky! HURRAH!

new pornos tomorrow, I am going to die.

Yacht Rock

This is some seriously funny shit. I was refered to it when a customer came in the store and I was playing Steely Dan's Aja (ON RED vinyl, thanks to Paul...) Hooboy.

Anyhoot, Decemberists tonite, I was kinda unwowed by their inotation fest performance, I hope I am feeling them again. I still can't really get into Picaresque either. Okay I should try for a few hours sleep.

What happens in Indy stays in Indy.

...except that one picture, apparantly, thanks a lot. I didn't even know that was taken. I guess I was asking for it though. I will pass along one public service announcement: don't drink 4 or 5 vodka cocktails, a beer, champagne, a bottle of red wine, makers mark and sake and expect to not feel like shit the next day. Damn, that was an enjoyable Wilco show for the most part.

Lil' Brudder is on his way back to normal, I think. He acted like he wasn't gonna burn a CD (which was what tipped me off that he was under the weather) but when I tried it again, he did it.

I saw Healthy White Baby @ Schuba's tonite, it was Tiffany's 30th bday. I'll ask her for some pointers in 8 months or so.

Good shows coming up next week! Decemberists, New Pornographers, My Morning Jacket, Devendra Banhart and hopefully Mike's halloween party. I need to go wig shopping ASAP.

Of all the dumb bunnies...

If you google that expression, I am one of only like 4 instances of it on the internet. I find this hard to believe. Is it totally outdated slang?

Sooz and I saw the Wallace and Grommit movie tonite, speaking of bunnies, they were not dumb, they were adorable but I was stricken with an insane headache during the movie. Gena texted me to tell me it was snowing, which I don't know if I believe since it was like 50 degrees. Sooz was also really amazing smuggling out some wine from the restaurant tonite. The pasta was good, but I fear we cannot go back. ;)

the dumb bunny award goes to me, the sleep study is scheduled for the same date as Wilco's hurricane benefit concert. HA. I have emailed requesting a change, but it is probably too late. Perhaps if I make a donation I can get a hospital show. Oh well, we are going to Indianapolis to see 'em Thursday, woot.

I bought the Degrassi Book today. Yes, I am offically a weirdo. But you knew that. I have been downloading the episodes before they air here. Yeesh, okay, I should sleep. opening, not good on the ol' circadian rhythm.

Oh I forgot to blabber about the Film Fest

I love the International Film Fest. I tend to go for the Japanese stuff, but Stacy and I saw a cool Slovenian film (Tuning) last nite, as a second choice to some Argentinian Breakup Puppy film that was SOLD OUT. Tuning was about this family, and the couple was all cheaty on each other, like the dude would go to a prostitute and the wife hooked up with this poet whose book she was editing or something. It reinforced in me that I will probably never be in a committed LTR because I am always suspicious and it's such a lame double standard because for instance in this movie, the wife kind of out of the blue thinks her husband is cheating, and he's been going to prostitutes... but she gets all freaked out, and ransacks the house and doesn't find any evidence, then she goes off and bangs the poet! Her husband wouldn't even have known but she leaves her cellphone at home and poet's all texting her. Of course husband reads it. Trust is so impossible! I admire couples who are married and all cool with each other, I just don't think I could pull it off. I mean, I started getting annoyed with a, uh, how do I put this politely, fuck buddy(?) because I felt like they weren't honest with me, and deep down it didn't even matter. But when they start being too nice and telling you you're awexome then you kinda think there could be something more, even though you KNOW it would be terrible, deep down, but you just can't stop yourself! Oh well. Maybe it's just me.

Crap, I'm rambling here. I'm kind of crushing which is hilarious in light of that rant. Uhhhh yeah.

I have no idea what is wrong with Lil' Brudder :(

He is hanging on to let me browse the internet and iChat. He doesn't like restarting, and he won't reboot from the system disc AT ALL. I guess it's off to the Apple Store with him tomorrow. Sooz is warrantying him, so that's a relief. He's got the heart of a champion, you know.

I decided to "pick up" my room before it got to 5 hour marathon cleaning phase. Still need to recatalog the records, but the CDs are shelved. Virgos are supposed to be all kinds of organized and I most certainly am not. I'm not on the cusp or anything like that.

Yes, I am really listening to the Pet Shop Boys. After listening to the new Deerhoof 2x today, and loving it, I don't think I can listen to anything with guitars for a bit.

Sam @ 10:14:00 PM| 0 comments

oh my goodness, help!

Lil' Brudder, aka my not quite paid for powerbook ex of sooz's is not behaving well. The apple hardware test says there is a problem with the harddrive, but it won't even let me repair permissions or what have you. I am fine with reinstalling the OS, but when I put that disc in and restart, it just gives me the little spinny guy under the apple for eternity. I only realized something might be wrong when it wouldn't burn a cd last nite. If anyone has any brilliant ideas, please let me have them. I am kinda scared.

I can barely breath and it feels like my head is full of rocks. I crave sodium. I am fucked up on sudafed (or wal-phed) and zinc and I don't think either are doing me any good. I am grateful for TV.

I think I have a 24 Flu

I get home last nite, and cook dinner, and progressively start feeling stuffy. Then it became I took Zicam even though Donna A. told me it will kill my tastebuds. I don't feel as crappy now, but I am on a mix of Wal-phed, Zicam, Acetamenophin and vitamins. Let's hear it for chemical dependancy.

My sister Mary arrived at 6pm Monday for a Kamikaze rock tourism trip. She got in at O'Hare, we took the El to Rosemont, and arrived at the arenatastic Allstate Arena. Security looked at her breast pump a little strange, but what are you gonna do? Our seats were really good. The Kaiser Cheifs were great, if getting a lukewarm reaction. Weezer was a good as I could hope for. I have never seen them, and I just had to settle for a damn arena show. What arena shows lack in intimacy they make up for in lights and other exciting stuff though, and custom weezer logo confetti. So who can complain? Wait, me, as I didn't hear my fave song, the good life, but they did play these: Jonas/The Other Way/ Don't Let Go/Dope Nose/ Pity/ Big Me (Foo Fighters cover)/ Perfect Situation/ Why Bother/ El Scorcho/ Say It Aint So/ We Are All On Drugs/ Surf Wax/ Beverly Hills/ Buddy Holly/ Photograph-Song 2/ Island in the Sun/ Undone/ Hash Pipe. So I won't complain. Mary really enjoyed the Foo Fighters, and I was surprised I knew as many of their songs as I did. Again, flashy lights and cool stage stuff made it fun. After a quick trip to Flash Taco, we came home, and she left yesterday morning. Ooh and thanks to Renee (another sister!) for sending birthday money! woot.

If I am feeling decent tonite, Devin Davis at the Bottle. We shall see. Work now.

Wild Satuday Night

Lucas came over and I watched him play Goonies II. Beat it, I should say. I did have to help him with tip from an online walkthru. I love that some kid somewhere sits down and transcribes how to play a freaking 20 year old Nintendo game. Lucas did leave me his games, consisting of such awesomeness as Rygar, Marble Madness, and uh, Where's Waldo? I now need some sleep. Bottom Lounge or Big Horse tomorrow? Both, probably.

When It Rains, It Pours (dial a cliche)

What arrives in the mail yesterday, but a box from my estranged friend in Jacksonville, Scott. I say estranged because he will not contact me for months, then a box will appear, or something. In the box was a Nintendo! Good gods, now I can have them all over the house! However, what sets this one apart is the inclusion of the best 8 bit game ever made: Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular! This game might be cool enough if it were a basic straightforward "sports" game but for some unknown reason the action takes place in Italy. It's pretty tough too, I don't think I have ever finished the river jump. I also logged a few hours on Castlevania last nite, which kinda stinks because there is no game saving or password. I guess I need to devote 8 hours to sitting down and playing it. Hmph.
