Saturday was a day.
Worked, then saw Andrew Bird, Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt opened. It was mellow. Logan Square Aud is the WORST VENUE IN THE CITY. why is the stage 2 feet tall? why do tall people with crazy afros stand in front of short people? I was kinda eh on the show... I was feeling like maybe I'd seen him too many times, same setlist, etc, when he called Nora O'Connor on stage and the just fucking tore it up with "Don't Be Scared", my favorite Weather Systems song (and maybe fave that he does period). So that was incredible. I don't remember if I have ever gotten to hear them play it. When they sing together it's just trancendental.
Then it was over to Schuba's with a layover at the Buffet Castle. Possibly the ickiest chinese buffet EVER (Kris, please feel free to defend it. did you try the, uh, fish sticks?). Man, I didn't know nearly EVERYONE I KNOW IN CHICAGO were going to be at Schubas! It was bizzare. It was nice to hang out with certain people I don't normally "hang out" with. Actually, it was just one, and I'm not naming names. Adam tore the roof off the dump, and then Healthy White Baby were "a rockin'". I was danced upon. Drinks were bought. I got kisses and hugs. I got a ride home from the generous Tim and Katy T. Things are all nice sometimes.
Had a yummy sooz cooked dinner with Sooz, Kris and Alison and then Kristina and Laura showed up mysteriously for some dessert and special lattes and kitchen dancing. What is going on this week? Sadies... anything else? I work a bunch. 'Tis the season, etc.

Turkey Day, Bird Day, etc. or Save me the Drumsticks and Neck!
I had a lovely thanksgiving at Laura's Uncle's House, with her and Kristina and Kris and Alison. Fried Turkey! Gravy! Yes! The non food highlight was watching Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving. Also, they let me play Christmas songs on the way home! I brought port wine cheese and sociables. mmm.
Wow, tomorrow I work then go see Andrew Bird at 6 and THEN Adam and Healthy White Baby at Schubas at 10. Should be a long good day.
I have been obsessed with listening to
this version of "The Naming of Things" from the Metro earlier this year. I think I totally lost it and bust into tears during it at the show. I love this version because there are a couple little messups, but at exactly 4:32 into it, it just goes to some other amazing intense level. sigh. okay, sorta off to bed.

Delilah's Tonite
Lots of people I know. Broken glass. chalk. cameras. golden apple. I should be djing there... JANUARY. that's not THAT far away.
Adam got some press today! the reader and time out. I feel like a kid who entered her cow in the state fair and won! I didn't do any of the work myself, but I put some claim on that ribbon. or something.
The sleep study money arrived today. The bruises and hives and scabs are gone. I kind of miss it. I like hotels and hospitals (that was my first hospital stay, but i have visited many family members and whatnots in them...running the gamut from making out to holding a dead hand). Then there's the attention, and people bringing you things you normally wouldn't get for just being you. Something about the controlled environment where everything is out of your hands and you go home with tiny bottles of shampoo.
Whatever. I am thankful for the fact that I am not sick, and permanantly stuck in a hospital. I am surrounded by a pretty decent group of people. If it all ended now, I'd be cool. Wait, give me 'til this Saturday.

anyone know how to take the superdrive out of a powerbook?
The initial problem that led to all those other problems with Lil' Brother has gotten worse. The superdrive (aka cd/dvd burner) is not doing a damn thing. you can stick ANY disc in and it churns a little then spits it out. I have tried canned air... I don't know what to do :( I can't run the hardware check because it won't read the disc.

Signs that the world is ending
I just saw Silver Jews on MTV2. Yeah, it's the alternative show, but holy crap!!
In exchange for use of the laundry facilities here, kris and alison took me to lunch (Honey 1) and we went to Lush and Target. I won a raffle at Lush (YAY!!) but they didn't give me a bag at Target, so I guess it evens out. The Target people were not sympathetic... Thank goodness it was only a bag with some xmas candy and cat goodies in it, and not the legwarmers or long johns. I will call and bitch them out tomorrow. Oh, the cake mix I bought was in there, so the frosting Alison bought wasn't going to do us any good, but we happened to have a box of cake mix in the pantry. We then had lattes and played classic NES. I am contemplating buying a Nintendo DS now that I learned it plays GBA games... ugh. and THEN kris was telling me about the Nintendo Revolution that comes out next year that will have broadband access to old Nintendo games. I will never stop being a nerd, I suppose.
tonight
was somewhat bad news. VD melted my brain though, in an awesome way.

Today is gonna be hella cold.
Possibly snow and a high of only 36. I would feel better about this if I could find the new hat sooz got me... Dang it. I did find my trusty gloves though. I am also not happy with this year's outerware options, I will likely be wearing that extremely blah grey coat I wore last year. I need to go thrifting Thursday after work.
I have been immortalized...
in the booklet of the Wilco live album. I am under jeff's arm. Also visible: Gina, Brianne, Kris, Heidi and Dick. I don't think my 5lb taft button is visible though.

What a fool believes
so how long has it been since i really posted?
i'm looking now, hold on...
wow, that long.
things are a little different. I have befriended this guy tim. We went and saw john cale last like wednesday? thursday? fuck, it was after the nite little dick cummings and laura and i went to silver cloud and had a lovely dinner, then went to the hideout for the two cow garage movie which made me cry like a baby and dedicate my life to them, but then more drinks kept coming and riviera played, then 2cg played, and drinks and shots were bought, the mr. cummings and i ended up at the fucking EXIT at 3am... I think he made it home. i haven't heard otherwise. i think that show ruled. so the next day i felt crappy and was ordered not to come in for my fill in shift, then aforementioned john cale show with tim happened. then was the nite of the smoking popes show, which, whatever, i'm not the biggest fan of the band, but my dear friend and coworker of the last few years happens to be in that band. so like everyone BUT me appears to be on the list and i am denied entry, so i go home and cry. saturday happens to not much noteworthyness. matt called me to assure me i was on the list, and i know it wasn't his fault. sunday sees K & A taking me to target for cat stuff, then a gourmet lunch at some nouvelle mexican place, aka taco bell. DELISH. Tim came over and we listened to some records, like John Jacob Niles (THANKS PAUL) and Walter Carlos (yeah pre-op mooging his ass off, thanks Laura... we opened the plastic wrap, it was transcendental). He left and i ordered (at his persuading, i think) the most expensive delivery i have ever had. The tortellini was good, a little more pesto than cream... but holy fucking shit, the olive oil was otherworldy. i could bathe in this shit. so insanely amazing. yum. oh so i worked at 4 today but managed to sleep til 2:30 today, and then got a late bus to boot, but then afterwork matt and i went to enjoy geils and benetti djing at club foot, where i had maybe one too many raspberri absolute and sprites. they are $3!! then matt and i came back here and watched vh1 classic and yacht rock.
i think i will be bringing the red vinyl aja to work tomorrow. Tim thinks he has never heard steely dan. young people are weeeeeeeeeird.
How did he know?
I told matt i needed to get in my pjs.
he says "they're not leopard skin, are they?"
...they're PINK leopard skin.
am i that predictible?

I have a dream...
And this morning it was that Sooz, Paul, and someone else and I drove to some really beautiful city to see Scott Walker, and ended up also seeing and hanging out with Mike Patton. Scott Walker couldn't belive that we had driven so far to see him. He still looked like he did in the 60s, and seemed to be backed by a live band even though I didn't see one.
Hmm.

Happy for real birthday Patti!
Patti is also blessed with a revolving "holiday" birthday like mine: I am Labor Day, She is Election Day. We should start some weird government up. I am the President though, since I am older. Though if opened to election she would probably win because it's her birthday. Damn.
interesting...
Are you a type A personality?: "You seem to have a Type B personality. Your personality draws characteristics from each of the other personality types, that is, Type A and Type C. Either you adjust your behavior depending on the situation, or you tend to be moderated in your attitudes. In any case, you are the most balanced of the three personality types.
"
sick and tired
i have not quite gotten back up to 100% since the hospital. of course, i probably never was at 100% to begin with, more like 89%. Presently, I'd rate that 62%. My sleep is 'normal'... I was hoping maybe I'd be able to nap tonite and then go see Adam at the House of Blues (wha??), but alas, that didn't happen. I have never been a napper. Do you ever feel like you want to start over, but not exactly? Intensity is good, in the right context. Or something. I think I need to drink 800 gallons of water. Thank the gods I am off tomorrow, though there are thunderstorms predicted. Maybe not til later. There is no cure for laziness.

Send
People always say you should sit on an emotional email for a day. Fuck it. I've had it. His birthday is this month, after all.
(oh, and happy belated to you Patti, that was in no way related to you...)
Whoo weekend.
My plans went as spelled out Saturday, though the dance party wasn't all that. Listening to French Disco with Matt was pretty awesome though. Okkervil River was wonderful, and Catfish Haven kicked some stuff, possibly ass. SOOOO good, SOOO excited they are on Secretly Canadian! It kinda feels like tomorrow is Sunday, though I know it's Monday because I have to wake up in four hours or so, gods I HATE opening. Oh well. I can sleep all day Tuesday. Sometimes, that is all that gets me going in the morning, imagining a full night's rest the next day. Never a nap though, I can't handle those either.
Holy Crap, Smoking Popes FRIDAY! Two Cow Garage at the Hideout WEDNESDAY! This could be a mythical week. Stay tuned.

Home Sweet Home
Man, that was harrowing. The last few hours were kind of unpleasant, save for the company. I had no energy in the end, and could barely eat my snacks. Greg and the TV were the only things keeping me alive. Then when I finally got home to wash that goo off my face, i was covered in hives! I took claritin (well, walitin) and used cream, and it doesn't look AS scary now. Tim brought me some tootsie pops at work, and then came by with MORE tootsie pops, and peanuts. I then "had a party" (courtesy of Adam) and went and saw Gary Higgins at the Bottle. It was great, but his voice probably wasn't as awesome as it could have been. Dance party at the Hideout tomorrow? Okkervil River at the Abbey Sunday? I feel the need to be 'social'.

it went thru a hole in the wall last nite. subsequently, it took me forever to fall asleep. I was totally freaking out. I guess I'm attached to the electrodes for the 28 hours I am kept awake now. Last nite I had cheerios and milk, and fake oreos and milk. this morning was a hashbrown, ketchup and hardboiled egg. mmmm. if you come visit, bring a camera. but no flash!
there's a tube in my arm.

midnite snack
