REVOLUTION BEGINS WITH CHANGES IN THE INDIVIDUAL
I fell in love with this artist today.. I spent a few hours at MCA today and was totally drawn into her "truisms". First I saw a page in print, then an LED sign. Now, she has it on a website!! fabulous!

When Olympic Fever goes bad
DFL... Stands for Dead Fucking Last. Yay losers!
Weird Long Day
Today was not a super groovy day, and I really don't know why when being kind of alone I thought it was smart to watch Donnie Darko with the lights off. I had another one of those weird impending doom dreams last nite (well, last morning of course) where I wake up before I'm totally dead. Maybe it was listening to Scott Walker
Tilt songs before going to bed. Maybe I should listen to Enya when I go to sleep. I don't own any Enya. Eny Enya. I think I might pass out.

Holy shit, that was a SHOW
I have seen and been a part of some incredible stuff at the hideout: Ted Leo performing
Shake the Sheets in its unreleased entirety, a nearly 3 hour Jay Bennett/Edward Burch show with Will and Scott from Centro-matic, making out with various folks in chairs, on stage and in bathrooms, Wilco on stage with a maybe 10 guy band, DBT making my ears bleed for the first time ever, Two Cow Garage at the movie premier, Andrew Bird on my birthday, and countless Monday nights (and Tuesday mornings) but it is gonna take a LOT to top the Adam Fitz/Devin Davis sold out show that occurred there Wednesday nite. The INTENSITY was INSANE!!! Both dudes and their respective bands gave everything they could, and the crowd gave it all back, especially that scantilly clad whoohoooer right in back of us. I may be biased b/c Adam is an olllllld friend of mine (that I met in that very room) but if nobody dug what he was offering they are damn deaf fools. Then Devin Davis made every lonely person in that room unite and shake and yell and it was pretty damn cool. Next weeks solo accoustic show should be like a visitor from another planet comparatively.
Speaking of next week, no Molina! I will likely be working anyway, but Jon Langford and Palliard should be a good booby prize. There's a few things happening tomorrow nite, I will likely do nothing as seems to be my M.O. when offered too many choices.

quote of the whenev.
"i thought it was a bit strange that he took his pants off." -Jonny W.
I figured it out
Sometimes, the things that don't happen are way better than the things that could have happened.
whoa.
That was the best or worst VD ever. I'll tell you in a few hours. Ricochet's could be the best bar ever, because eventually Britain stops charging you for drinks and brings the Jägerbombs. Or not. Okay: official verdict is "confused". Because when I did the same thing, i know what I meant. When it was done on me, however, I am confused in at least 3 different ways. Maybe (probably) it means absoultely nothing. When I did the exact same thing though, it meant something at the time. Though it was nice to have an excuse to fall back on. Maybe it wasn't an excuse though?
If anyone can follow this, I will buy you a pizza.

another monday, another molina
I was skeptical of Molina enchanting me like last week, but it happened all over again. He started out shaky which had me a little worried, but then he magically loosened up, bantered enough not to be annoying, and sang as if his life depended on it. Oh and did that kind of wiggly thing he does. That is all I have to say, it was a pleasure meeting you too (again!).

"here's another one about wolves..."
I will always remember one of my first times seeing Songs: Ohia/Jason Molina at Schubas in 2003. He played pretty much only unreleased stuff that I was not familiar with, and made a comment about how it was his first time being back in Chicago since he had moved away that he hadn't wanted to jump off a bridge. Not exactly the kind of show to win a casual fan over, but I stuck around. Now in 2006, he has moved back to Chicago and is headlining Schubas solo every Monday in February. Sometime since then his voice has become a formidable instrument. I don't know if it has just been buried under the guitar heroics of MEC or there was really something that changed but the clarity and confidence was overwhelming last night, and I wasn't the only one who noticed that. He made you believe everything he sang, and forced you to find some comfort in the pain of the lyrics. He played mostly recent Magnolia Electric Company stuff like Down the Wrong Road Both Ways, Hold On Magnolia, Whip-poor-will, Bowery, Montgomery Bound, What Comes After the Blues, Nashville Moon and a handful of new songs. One he introduced as "another one about wolves...moons, stars, owls, rivers, woods, the dark" which really does sum up his body of work; nobody knows their way around the wolf-headed conjurer, the dark and the blues like Molina. I hope I get to go to the other 3. It's over by 11pm so you normal worktime people don't have much excuse. Speaking of excuses, I missed Devin Davis at h/o last wednesday, and will miss this week's as well. Adam is opening for him on the 15th, which I will be at. This month, musically, Chicago might be the best city on earth. 4 chances to see Jason Molina and Devin Davis. wow!
Did I say anything about the smoking popes dvd premier party? well, i dunno about party, it was a living room gathering though. it sounds and looks awesome. hopefully i will be seeing them for real in march. oh, and the article/pictures in emo/metal magazine alternative press is just adorable. Those guys next to all these kinda caracature tattoo/piercy/hair gelly bands...awww!
oh and the new Belle and Sebastian: yay!! sooooooooooo good!

on second thought...
Fargo might be a better wanderin' destination. Rugby has no transit, Fargo offers
a powerpoint presentation on riding their buses.
I feel the call to go a-wanderin'
I might take a train to Rugby, ND, the geographic center of North America, if you consider North America the US and Canada only.
