Cliff's Notes to Last Week
I briefly talked about the Wilco shows. Good times despite the weather. I really dug the Wilco shows, which after seeing a band a lot (no actual number posting here, but if you guess closest I'll give you a prize which may or may not be just a pat on the back) you might think it could get boring. Thankfully, with Nels on board improvising a lot, you can hear the same damn song three nights in a row and have it affect you in a completely different way everytime. I really got the feeling that they all love playing with each other, and all have something to add, which hopefully will translate well to the new album.
Paul and I drove back from Des Moines (well I rode) Thursday after a pit stop at Being There coffee shop in Altoona, IA, which was totally adorable. After another brief pit stop at home we drove (well I rode) to the Abbey to meet Dick for Magnolia Electric Company with Destroyer, whom I ended up loving. MEC were on fire! Crazy solos from Groth, Molina on a new(?) grown up guitar... Absolutely awesome.
Friday I rested, as I seem to have some creeping crud in my lungs.
Saturday Alison, Kris and I drove (well Kris and I rode) to Ann Arbor, MI for the last show of the Silver Jews first ever tour! Pretty interesting to go from seeing a group you have seen a ton of times to a group you have never ever seen... it was pretty much as I expected, no surprises setlist wise (but great choices). When they played Punks in the Beerlight i thought the somewhat tiny space was going to burst. The love was felt to the max, and I am stoked for the double door show here soon. Some dudes behind us gave a shout out to the hotel we were staying at, which was a popular out of town Joos fan destination, what with the most awesome bar in the world, Bedrocks, in the lobby.
Back to work tomorrow, amidst plans for the basement rock fest in less than 2 weeks. OMG I think I'm gonna pass out.

Welcome Back
The MO/IA Wilco jaunt has come to a sort of end. I mean, we are still in IA. I really really enjoyed seeing Wilco again (It's been almost 6 mos) and all three shows had completely different "vibes". Since I haven't swooned over Nels Cline in 6 months, please humor me.
Dear gods, Nels Cline is sooooooooooooooo amazing.
Back to Chicago for Destroyer/Magnolia Elec. Co.

Brief Recap and Preview
Saturday was indeed Vee Dee, and the St Patrick's partying started as well. The show was good, but I was under the influence of Dan's brownies, which were awesome! Someone liked my sweater.
Sunday was the Popes at Metro. They were great, but it was just kinda weird seeing Matt in that capacity.
I don't think i did anything awesome during the week (note - if I did something awesome with you, please let me know.)
Tonite, which is the official first day of my vacation is Marc Ribot at OTS, then I go out on the road with Brianne to meet various others in various cities in MO and IA and see that Wilco band. Paul and I return to Chicago just in time for Magnolia Elec. Co. and Destroyer, the Friday is Scout Nibblett and THEN off with Alison and Kris to Ann Arbor for Silver fucking Jews!! I'd better remember my liver care pills!
Okay, I promise to keep posting, and maybe even PICS!!! OMG!!

B&S/TNP
The weirdest thing last nite was when the marquee at the Riv was changed from Belle and Sebastian New Pornographers to read Belle and Sebastian The New Pornographers, a mere hour or so before doors. I would have enjoyed the show a bit more if I wasn't wedged in front of a broad shouldered Dad who was chaperoning the 13 year old boys in the front. If you are gonna go to a show and take up valuable front floor space, please be into the band, and not taking annoying flash photos.
Enough whining. The show was great, it's nice to see 2 bands you really like together. TNP played all the songs I could have wanted sans Bejar(Use It/Spanish Techno/Blown Speakers) and Nora came out and sang on a few. B&S were so adorable and played all the songs I could have wanted (Lazy Line Painter Jane/Your Cover's Blown/The State I Am In) and all the good new album ones. Woot!

HAPPY MARDI GRAS!!!
quote a text message from Adam @ 10 am this morning. Doesn't he realize some people suffer from DSPD and aren't awake at such hour? No matter, I was determined to have a pretty good time tonite and make it home with some beads.
Saw Mucca Pazza (yes, that marching band) at Martyrs, and enjoyed it way more than the first time I saw them. I even had a Hurricane in the spirit of the nite. It was not as tasty as the one had at the greasy spoon in New Orleans with Paul and Sandi though. That one was all slurpee like.
Thanks to Meg for the Jager though. Ick eww eww, I never used to like Jager. I guess I have my brother to blame for that.
Today is officially 69 days 'til the new Scott Walker album. I might burst.
